I really wish theyād let Mills pitch. Beating the tarholes would be the highlight of the season. Moreover, losing to the tarholes would ruin the season. Yeah, yeah⦠we get a great record against a bunch of crappy teams like St Joes, but canāt hang with the real teams because we put our B team against them.
What do we have to lose by Mills pitching? Not having him against 8-17 Rhode Island?
This is our chance to beat the #2 team in the nation.
The Series Charlotte is 5-25-1 all-time against the Tar Heels. Charlotte's last win vs. UNC was at home, in 1992. In Chapel Hill, Charlotte is 2-13-1 all-time. The last win for the Niners at North Carolina was on April 20, 1988.
Adam Mills and Spencer Steedley have not allowed a run in 11 innings each, while Zach Rosenbaum has a run of 10.2 innings pitched without allowing a run.Are we going there expecting to lose or something, so we don't want to waste any pitching? :unhappy:
Good point, but is it more important that he throw against the #5 rated team, or against Rhode Island? I donāt know the answer, butā¦
Metro, can you interject your expertise?
back in the day I would of been screaming (literally) to give me the damn ball at UNC. 5th ranked team, senior year, 4 days rest on both ends, a chip shot from the school record for wins, hated in state team- yada yada yada.
Maybe Hibbs thinks he can get an at large NCAA with the following:
finish near #60 RPI
be regular season champs
have 45 wins
I donāt know what his logic is not throwing Mills (when he could go again Sun). Maybe he is protecting Millsā confidence so he does not get derailed for the rest of A10 play? Maybe he is protecting my record? (evil grin).
Maybe Hibbs does not want to show UNC Millsā stuff because they are a potential host, and we have a high probability of going there??
the whole āI like Mills on Fridayā thing seems like a poker line.
Maybe he knows Mills has a chance to be NCAA POY and is protecting his stats??
just looked at the sched, maybe he wants to toss Mills vs A&T next Tues and get a gauranteed W (which requires him going Fri vs RI)
spaghetti against the wall here boysā¦
Charlotteās last win vs. UNC was at home, in 1992.
woot woot:flame:
not completely true. The game was suspended in the 5th here for rain, the next week we went to UNC and finished the game, and finished beating their ass- in front of Montross no less.
game 2- Metro got his little ass handled by Paul Shuey and his 98mph filth. :cuss:
Another question for Metro:
If Mills is suppose to throw a bullpen on Tuesday, could they do that in the game to close? Did you ever do that in the mid week?
good point
solution: do not throw any bullpen Tuesday āpregameā, wait and see how the game progresses. Near the end of the game he can throw his normal pen, OR go ahead and get loose and inserted for a close. Kind of confusing but I think you get my point.
Founc this on Rivals.com, hopefully we get the W tomorrow.
No. 2 Tar Heels open big week on Tuesday
April 9, 2007
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ā After a weekend of batting the elements and the Eagles at Boston College, second-ranked North Carolina returns to Boshamer Stadium for four games this week. After opening the week at home Tuesday against No. 25 Charlotte at 6 p.m., the Tar Heels (29-5) travel to Elon Wednesday before hosting Duke for a three-game set this weekend.
Luke Putkonen will be on the mound Tuesday after missing his scheduled start last Sunday due to illness.
Carolina went 4-0 last week and has won eight of nine and 12 of 14 since losing its lone weekend series to Virginia. Red-hot Dustin Ackley and Tim Federowicz continue to pace the Tar Heel offense, which hit .397 last week. Ackley extended his UNC rookie record hitting streak to 26 games over the weekend, while Federowicz has hit in 14 straight games. Both Ackley (.481) and Federowicz (.381) rank among the top eight hitters in the ACC. The No. 3 and No. 4 hitters in Carolinaās usual lineup, Ackley (46) and Federowicz (38), also rank among the top six in the league in RBI.
On the mound Tuesday, the Tar Heels will turn to sophomore right-hander Luke Putkonen, who missed his scheduled start last Sunday due to illness. He is 5-1 with a 3.23 ERA over 39 innings this season. Putkonen, who allowed one run on two hits in four innings against the 49ers a year ago, has made seven weekend starts this season and has 29 strikeouts to just 11 walks. He is holding the opposition to a .237 average. Wednesdayās starter has not been determined.
At 26-5 and 8-1 in league action, Charlotte is the top team in the Atlantic 10 and is ranked 25th by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Carolina leads the all-time series with the 49ers, 25-5-1, won both games a year ago and is 8-0 versus Charlotte under Mike Fox. The 49ers will start lefty Kyle Pfirrman Tuesday. He is 3-1 with a 4.91 ERA over 12 relief appearances on the season. Charlotte is led at the plate by Kris Rochelle (.438-3-29) and Brad McElroy (.413-6-39).
those uniforms are SO ugly. ive never been a huge hater of baby blue or anythingā¦never really a strong opinion on itā¦but gah, those things are gruesome.

I understand there are some guys in chapel hill that want to change the official school color to PINK.

I hate to get this back on the topic butā¦
This is a statement game and for the life of me I canāt figure out why we donāt bring the best we have? It is clear we can win A10 games with virtually anyone on the hill. We unfortunaterly donāt have too many name games on the schedule this season, this would be huge.

I agree with you 100% on bringing the best, especially since itās against a TOP 5 school.
⦠(and thanks for getting this back on track).

I agree on the pink uni comment nonetheless.
On second thought. It will be nice to say we won starting our #3.

i made that decision after looking at their basketball floor⦠ugliest thing ive ever seen.
Itās āDOG DAYā at Boshamer Stadium today, hot dogs only $1.00.
Bitches cost more in Chapel Hill.
Itās really too bad this game isnāt on TV. Georgia Tech and Miami were on earlier today⦠Iād love to watch this gameā¦

No offense to Pfirrman, but this is reaallly pissing me off. We are facing the #5 ranked team in the nation on their home field, we have a legit shot to beat them on their own ground, shoot up the rankings, show recruits we can hang with the bog boys, gain national attention⦠and what do we do? WE START A FREAKING RELEIVER WHO HASNT STARTED A SINGLE GAME THE WHOLE FREAKING YEAR!!!
AAAGGGGH!!!:cuss:
Iām not saying Kyle is a bad pitcher, but come on, shouldnt we at least throw one of our STARTERS at them!?
Ohhhh well⦠GO NINERS!!!
how much did they pay phil to make hibbs do this? what the hell other explanation can anyone think ofā¦money has exchanged hands, it seems like to me.
