Big Ten to consider 20 game men's basketball conference slate

ESPN.com: Jim Delany says Big Ten discussing 20-game conference schedule

Just another way to keep mid majors out. Less opportunities for quality wins means fewer at large bids for mid majors.

I really do not like the sound of this, especially:

"Izzo told ESPN that he would be in favor the change to 20 Big Ten contests – as long as all of the power leagues do the same.

“If everyone doesn’t go to 20 games in the power five, someone will have a major advantage in terms of wins and losses,” Izzo added. “When you are only talking about a difference of one game in wins, it’s not a big deal. But when you start talking two or three wins, a lot of time they will take the team with the better record.”"

To me, this allows the Power 5 schools to essentially schedule the non-conference games against each other and gives non-P5 schools fewer opportunities to get quality “road victories” or whatever category the Selection Committee deems most important in a given year.

clt says this thinking will lead to the end of college sports as we know it.

yep. The haves will have even more and will eventually kill chances of non-P5ers.

FWIW, since the Big 12 and Big East each have only 10 members, neither will be going to 20 conference games. Perhaps if the ACC, American, Big Ten, PAC-12 and SEC all go to 20 that may compel the former - especially the B12 - to expand. Hmm…

clt says to look at wake forest. they have no chance to win a championship in mbb or fb with the current set up. How long until they tire of going less than 500?

Never. They’re just happy to be playing with the “big boys”.

They will never tire from getting that P5 revenue. Same can be said for Rutgers.

clt says that fan interest is down at wfu and rutgers. alumni not happy.

Jeff Eisenberg chimes in.
