I went to see Memphis play at Charlotte on Wednesday night, and it was the most entertaining game I had seen to date.
Charlotte plays an entertaining style, shooting deep and switching defenses. Memphis has two of the best athletes in college basketball in Darius Washington and Rodney Carney.
Eddie Basden
Basden’s all-around game has Jay’s attention.
Washington is ultra-quick, and it is impossible for anyone to consistently stay in front of him. He is explosive and can really get to the basket and finish. Carney is a world-class athlete that has unbelievable speed. He is a superior leaper that gets eye-high to the rim, and he can shoot it.
However, the most impressive player on the floor was Charlotte’s Eddie Basden. He was a man among men out on the floor, and showed why he should be the national defensive player of the year.
Basden leads Conference USA in steals, is the league’s all-time steals leader, and can guard absolutely anyone. He is athletic and a smart defender. Above all, he is a winner who makes winning plays.
Basden is the paradigm of a kid that stays four years and matures into a star. He will play in the NBA, and he will be a solid player in the league because he can guard people, he’s strong, and he knows how to play.
More evidence that dookie v and digger are COMPLETE IDIOTS that obviously have a hidden, personal agenda against us. Probably because our players, fans and coaches don’t kiss their asses.
Also from Jay Bilas
(Didn’t see this before; sorry if it’s a repeat)
However, my Coach of the Year in C-USA is Charlotte's Bobby Lutz. It amazes me that Lutz seems to toil in relative anonymity when he routinely takes his teams to the NCAA Tournament, and does so with too few resources at his disposal. Lutz is a master at changing defenses, keeping you off balance, and he allows his team a disarming freedom to make plays without fear of failure.
A fierce competitor, Lutz infuses his team with that attitude and fights like a man possessed on the sidelines. Lutz can coach with anyone in America and win.
Conference USA Coach of the Year: Bobby Lutz, Charlotte. Runner-Up: Tom Penders, Houston. High Honorable Mention: Rick Pitino, Louisville, Dave Leitao, DePaul.

I was just in Memphis, what a sad town, so unimpressed…although they do have pride in U of Memphis…I also saw tons of corporate support… With Bank of America, Walcovia, etc based in Charlotte why do we fight for crumbs… I am certain that if Lutz has the resources he needs he would not leave, he has proved he can win in Charlotte, and with the last 3 games being sold out the foundation is there…It’s time that Charlotte’s business community take some pride in OUR university… Any ideas on who to e-mail? Enough on this board to get noticed? the chamber?.. just a thought…
