Black Swan - Discussion (Spoiler Alert!!!)

I let the girl choose the movie this past weekend and we saw Black Swan.

I’ve seen/heard on the tv and internet that this movie is awesome and nominated for a crazy amount of awards.

Is it just me or did that movie sux? I literally felt it was one stupid movie. Sometimes it seems that the more the critics love the movie and the more awards it gets, the less likely I’m going to like it.

cibik02 gives it 2 thumbs down! and if you must watch or the woman wants to see it… wait until it’s at the Red Box and save $20+.

I didn’t think it sucked, but I definitely do not believe it was good enough to be nominated for so many awards.

I watched it online for free though. I probably would have hated it more if I had paid to see it.

I didn’t think it sucked but I really hate movies that I come out feeling “neutral” about and where I’m saying to myself “WTF?” I’d really rather hate a movie then feel nothing for it. Even the lesbian scene between Portman and Kunis didn’t do much for the movie.

Black Swan is a masterpiece. I suggest you see Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, and The Wrestler to get more acquainted with Darren Aronofsky’s style of film making. It’s definitely not something that the masses will enjoy but people who truly love and study film will gush about for years.

I thought it was fantastic and I can’t wait to see it again.

Either that is one horrible lesbo scene or this is blasphemy

Why are we debating Black Swan masterpiece or sucks? Y’all are gay as hell. :stuck_out_tongue: Two hot chicks get it on. WTF else do you damn homos need? (No offense to real gays intended.)

I’ve seen Requiem and The Wrestler and thought both those were better than Black Swan. The acting was really good in the movie and the girls were hot, but I thought the story was kinda bland. It was basically, hey, this chick is crazy. The end.

clt says this film turned his GE on. not good to have the range on all night.

I enjoy these types of movies. Reminded me a little bit of Jacob’s Ladder with Tim Robbins if anybody has seen that one. I’m a big fan of movies dealing with what’s real and what isn’t. I don’t see this movie as “a movie about a crazy girl”. The two different swans represented her personality and past experiences. I agree with this quote about the movie I saw on a review site -

Portman's hallucinations become more intricate as the movie progresses; her interaction with a fellow dancer - a sexually uninhibited character (played by the lovely Mila Kunis) exacerbate her mind state of confusion and terror. The hallucinations, which mostly involve 'body horror' get worse; the viewer becomes unaware of what is real and what is not, which could be viewed as a flaw but I think it merely added to the intrigue. Is she self harming? Not consciously. Portman's role demands her to play both the White and the Black Swan; she struggles with the dark role as it becomes a metaphor for her exploration of drug use, sexuality and rebelliousness, which combines with her drive 'to be perfect' in a fascinating way.

I didn’t like it as much as the praise it is receiving. But I wouldn’t call it terrible. Just that you can figure out the split personality theme going on fairly early. For me, it’s going to be hard for somebody to pull off a movie like this, post Fight Club.

This movie did raise a ton of questions for me though. More so than Inception. Don’t have time to post them all now. Will come back and post them later. I definitely feel like I need to see it again to be able answer them.

ok I’ll be the perv about the pink elephant in the room… what all gets shown when Portman and Kunis tangle?

Not enough to redeem the movie. Kunis goes downtown but you don’t get a porn shot of the action.

Then this guy will wait for NetFlix

Personally I thought the solo scene of Portman in bed was much hotter.

So…

My biggest question was, when they had the scenes with Nina(Portman) having flashes and seeing somebody, was it always Black Swan Nina? Or was it somebody else?

For instance, when she was getting fitted and looking in the mirror, then somebody in the mirror looks at her. It resembles Nina. But it was so quick it’s hard to tell. And if it is Nina, what does it mean.

Some goes for the sex scene with Lily(Kunis).
