Booker article on scout
David Booker’s career at Charlotte was short lived. The freshman power forward is headed to another location.

“I’m transferring next year,” Booker told Scout.com. “It was nothing really, I just wanted a little more playing time and they said they didn’t really see me playing a lot. I just wanted to go somewhere where I could see the floor.”

Booker, an excellent student, indicated that Northwestern and Tulane would be two places he’d like to explore.

“I signed the release papers almost two weeks ago. I have no idea where I want to go. I’m just trying to weigh my options. It depends on who calls back.”
i knew he was going to be looking heavily at NW

I wish him well and hope he finds the right fit. For those of you who have never held a conversation with this guy, David is an EXTREMELY nice guy. He is also really smart, and seems very mature for a college freshman. I hope he ends up having a quality college career.

He just wanted wayy too much, too early. He was expecting to get EJ Drayton/Curtis Withers type minutes next year. Maybe by his senior year he could have come close, but not as a sophomore. You have to earn it. Plus, besides this, he really doesnt fit the type of mold that Bobby is looking for now. He has good hands and decent size, but he is slow, and doesnt really handle the ball well. Bobby is looking for fast athletes who can get up and down the floor in a flash (Mack/Coley types).

Hopefully David will find a good fit and enjoy the rest of his college days.

Nice find moss!

Who the hell would give him more playing time?? Wow… I think this guy was a little over his head. Nice guy…but expecting a little too much…

well when you are 6’7 and average 23 points a game against midgets you think you deserve a lot more than you should get. I mean that is basically what 1AA high school basketball is right?

Lesser programs, which he fully acknowledges by saying NW and Tulane. It’s his collegiate career and he has that right. Best of luck Booker.

I was kinda looking forward to him devloping next year, seeing where he went. Oh well.

What happened to hope… OUR expectations? We all at one time, not long ago, were all pumped at this kid’s prospects. Remember…

“David has excellent offensive skills,” said Lutz, who will be entering his ninth season as head coach of the 49ers. “He is a very good shooter and exceptional passer for a big forward in addition to his abilities around the basket.”

“I’m excited,” Booker said of his decision. “Now I can just focus on playing. I really like their system and the offensive freedom they play with. That was a big factor in choosing Charlotte over the other schools. I think (fans) will be excited about my shooting and my rebounding and just my overall game.”

“We are very excited about his decision to join us at Charlotte,” Lutz added. “David comes from a great program and coach which will aid his transition to this level.”

I hate this stuff.

Am I the only one who didn’t see much of this from Booker? We may have had high expectations of him, but he didn’t live up to his press clippings.

It was pretty obvious to anyone who saw his first summer league game that he wasn’t going to do much.

Yeah, I remember that. After seeing that, I figured he would be garbage minutes guy at best.

As late as we signed him, was anybody surprised? If he was still around that late, he couldn’t have been that great. I would have been surprised to see him excel.

But as usual we all saw his HS stats and pumped him up like we do everyone else that goes green. To a certain degree we have to recruit on “potential” b/c we can’t land the big recruits. This one didn’t work out. Almost seemed like he was too tentative on the court and forced himself to be aggressive and foul in certain situations. Best of luck to him though…

he was terrible…good writtens…

he was terrible....good writtens....

What?? You mean riddance?? Wow…
he was terrible…good writtens…
That is a mindbottling statement!

If you’re not going to get much PT being one of the only big men on this team, you must not be that great. Best wishes to Big Phil. Too bad he was screwed by the NCAA last year. I’m not ready to say good writtens, but at least I can say when in Rome.

Did anyone else notice that Bobby yelled at Booker a lot when he was in the game?

For example, the highlight clip of Booker shown on the intro video, after Booker made that play Bobby ran to half court and was YELLING at him not to dribble the ball after he got a rebound. Bobby was right, but it was pretty embarassing for Booker… probably because it was awkwardly quiet when Bobby was yelling.

I just never noticed that kind of chastising to any of the other players.

bobby does that to everyone when they make mistakes in games. If he gets really mad he’ll automatically pull them out of the game.
