Ok, so won is loose term. Won the right to pay for it. For those of you who know about PVW23, you clearly understand how rare it is.
So the question I have is - Would you drink it, or would you sell it? I’ve seen people posting on craigslist for well over $1000. Internet says that people are paying upwards of $2000 for it. Which direction would you go?

You could certainly sell it and buy several bottles of other fine bourbon to taste - and still have money left over. I’m a big scotch guy, but I think if given the opportunity to dump a rare bottle and pick up a few less-rare, but good bottles, I’d have to jump on it.
Not to mention, if you hold on to it and drink it, the opportunity cost alone is something like $40-90/glass based on your estimates.

I’d sell it and buy a s*** load of Angel’s Envy.
I’d sell it if I found someone willing to pay over $1000. It was an expensive bottle upfront, but I’m not in any rush to move it. I actually just bought a $40 bottle of bourbon online that beat PVW23 in a taste test. Maybe that will hold me over.
I’f I could sell it for $2K, I’d sell in a heart beat.
Saw this article on it from the Observer. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/12/09/4532272/pappy-van-winkle-craze-stirs-up.html
That article didn’t really explain why it’s so popular now versus just a few years ago. Is it just Internet word-of-mouth and it’s gone “viral”?
$500. Steep I know. My brother is obsessed with it. Worst case I make him split it with me. We’ve tried PVW23 in Charleston about a month ago. As the ice melts it almost becomes creamy in texture. Strong vanilla flavor. I’m not a huge drinker so I can’t appreciate it the way others can. I bought it for the novelty. Regardless of selling or drinking it, I’ll have had a fun experience.
Donate it to the Athletic Department to be sold in the live auction in June at the Great Gold Rush Auction. You will get to determine the value of your gift and I think you could reasonably peg it at $1500-2000. This would count as your donation for the year and you would go Green Jacket for $500. Plus, you can write off the gift on your taxes. Double win.
I agree. Have some and enjoy it. Also just having it around the house will generate “OOH’s and Aahhhs” From your friends. Those combined experiences will be remembered long after the money from a potential sale is gone.

I completely agree. Of course, I’m a bourbon and scotch man, so my opinion is pretty biased. I could talk for a long time about the subject, so I definitely would hold onto it and enjoy it. Depends on whether that’s your thing.
