Box Scores from last 3 Memphis games

Washington and Carney have really been playing well. We need a good defensive effort all around, but especially out of Eddie and Mitch. We can’t let these two guys light us up. I thought we played pretty good defense against DePaul (holding Greer to 11 points in 35 minutes) so hopefully that will carry over tonight.

Given Iti’s performance of late, is it time to start someone else? I think I would rather see EJ or Nance starting.

Wow, AWESOME Signature Lutzfan - you rock

I actually agree.

We have a decided advantage on the inside over Memphis and I think having Curt and Nance in there is better for us than having Iti. They’re not going to pound the ball inside, they’ll drive and settle for jump shots a lot of time. Nance is much better offensively than Iti and has a better nose for the rebound.

I think we’ll out rebound them by at least 10 for the game and that will be the difference.

Totally agree (if we outrebound them, we win). What are we - 11-2 when we outrebound the other team? 12-2? Something like that.

Personally, I think Iti still needs to start. If he gets involved early in the game, he can be dangerous and he’ll just cause problems for the other team. It doesn’t take long for Lutz to figure out if he’s into it or not and I don’t think he necessarily hurts the team by being out there for the first few mins.
Also, I like Nance as a “spark plug” off the bench, Vinnie Johnson style. Comes in with a lot of energy and can throw the other team off when they are starting to tire. It’s worked all season long that way - why mess with a good thing?

Force them to shoot <45% by contesting shots. Get those misses.
Win.

QUOTE (Florida49er @ Feb 23 2005, 01:59 PM)

I hope Iti decides to come out and play the full game 100 percent …with a positive attitude. If he does …he could have a great game. I have this feeling he might just show up tonight and put some heart into his game. Lets hope so! Nance has been awesome … Its clear we can use both of them.

Memphis sports a “LunaRPI” of 45. This is an indicator of the success a team has away from home, as it ranks teams solely on their road/neutral record. This is against an RPI of 116 this morning. Remember, the RPI was changed this year to reward road wins, regardless of the opponent, and punish home losses, regardless of the opponent. Using last year’s formula, Memphis would be an RPI of about 80 from what Lunardi was mentioning on insider.

For comparison purposes our “LunaRPI” is 21. I don’t know what our RPI would be currently using last year’s formular however. I don’t think it would be dramatically different because his article was focusing on teams who’s RPIs were exaggerated in one direction or another compared to last year.

I heard that the selection committee will mainly use the “new” RPI in determining seeds this year, but they will still look at the “old” RPIs. I would be curious to know where we rank with the “old” one.

Over the last three games, Memphis has made 52.5% (84 of 160) of their shots. Their opponents have made 37% (67 of 181) of their shots. Memphis also had a rebound advantage of +19.

I’m sure Lutz has passed this info along to the guys for a little added inspiration.

In the end, we win a close one by two.
