Boycott Dicks...

Dick’s is a joke.

Just wanted to post in this thread since it has such an awesome title.

was in there the other day, they had a whole wall of uncch gear.
I know. I saw that wall of **** when I was there the other day too. As I was leaving there were some people on their knees bowing repeatedly to it. I walked outside and vomitted.

That’s probably the best idea for a peaceful protest I can think of.

We all go to Dick’s. Look around, say, “where’s the charlotte stuff?!” and then walk outside and VOMIT EVERYWHERE.

lolol [snooty voice] “My word! Look at all this vomitus!”

Perhaps it would be better to vomit on the wall and worshipers. We couldn’t help it, the wall made us do it. The only cure is an adequate and equal dose of Charlotte gear on sale in the store.

Ok, i would have to say my experience was more in line with family guy…but ino longer want to hear “if we sold more of your stuff we would stock more”, my reply is “if what you stocked didn’t look like crap i would buy more”…22,000 students and they don’t see a market? Does the niner news paper have any influence? well at least i have had some laughs reading this thread…

The Dick’s at Birkdale Village had large amounts of 49er tee shirts and hats a few years ago, I bought a shirt and hat (even though it did say UNC Charlotte).

I went back the following week and the Niner stuff was gone… not really. They had hidden it on the bottom shelf behind the spare tarhole stuff. I did some rearranging and put some Niner gear back on the top shelf. The sales clerk came up and said “Hey, don’t move my tarhole shirts. That’s all I want our customers to buy.” I asked him if his last name was Persinger.

True story. And the guy did not seem to be too bright.

When I worked at the University store, I did the exact opposite
<---------- the santa hats you see on the left are at Dicks
I really like those santa hats, did you get them recently? They still got them? I want one myself
I went to Dick’s last week (to get a Niners Santa hat for $19.00) and on the receipt was a customer satisfaction survey with an incentive to fill to complete the survey.
ahh, yeah they do have them.

I was at the one in Kannapolis

Yeah, Dicks isnt a sponser anymore.

I can see this same thread title being quite controversial on the tarhole board.

Yea i noticed that …no more Dick’s 3 pointer cards…

FYI, got an email today from a person(s) that have dealt with 49er-Dicks merchandising who wanted NNN to understand the truth:

that the couple hundred of them cannot possibly buy enough gear to warrant a “business” to stock a product simply because they want them too. Every time a local merchant has stocked any quantity of Charlotte stuff, they have had to eat it, and therefore they don’t do it anymore. The demand is not there. Carolina has demand. NC State has demand. Etc. I wish it were not the case, but the blame is on us, not the merchant.
Second, DICK’S eliminated all of their college sponsorships (UNC & NCSU included) on a national basis that didn’t have a multi-year deal in place in a cost-cutting move but they hope to be back involved with Charlotte once budgets are increased. This should not come as a shock to any fan. And finally, DICK’S has one universal coupon/promotional offer more for internal than external reasons.

I dunno man, I just don’t know if I believe it. All I hear from ALL NINERS FANS, Alum, students, parents of students, friends of the program is that they can’t find ****. That sounds like a problem to me. Whenever Champs used to carry stuff at Concord Mills it would always sell out or almost sell out WAY faster than the other stuff.

Garbage I say, garbage!

sorry Metro… I don’t know who it was that sent you that, but I call BS on it. …What do they mean, they had to “eat it”? Did they end up marking it down below costs or giving it away? I don’t think so. When’s the last time you went into Dick’s and saw any Charlotte stuff (if there was any) marked down?..I go to the Dick’s in Matthews quite often and I have never seen any Charlotte items marked down.

I don’t know. The way the economy is right now, I think Metro’s 2nd person response makes some sense. I’m not very surprised by what it says.

HOWEVER, someone, somewhere on this site was talking about there someday being an exclusive venue for buying 49ers merchandise.

Why can’t the 49ers Athletic Marketing people and Dick’s Sporting Goods actually make the Charlotte area stores the exclusive provider for 49ers merchandise?

In the basketball program, there is (or at least there used to be) a page that listed places to buy 49ers merchandise. It listed a bunch of names that I didn’t recognize, didn’t know where they are or would have to actually to be walking in a mall to identify them.

Spend one week driving around the Charlotte area, there is a better than 70% chance (IMO) of finding at least one Dick’s Sporting Goods without looking for one.

If I knew I had to go to Dick’s get something that said “Charlotte Football” or if I wanted a new Charlotte hat…I would have to go to Dick’s. Once I am in the store, there is a fairly good chance of buying something else(golf balls, golf shirt, tennis shoes) .

The selection of 49er product I ever saw at Dick’s was very boring and predictable. If I want a new Charlotte hat, I am going to Lids (or beg to buy one from the baseball team) before I go anywhere else.

The idea is not totally thought out here…and I’m sure someone (or maybe everyone) will shoot holes in it, but WTH, I’m not a marketing major.

Something along this line would encourage me to go to Dick’s more often than if I ever kept one of those worthless coupons on the bottom of those old 3 point cards.

just my 2 cents.

Same crap we always here, “We can’t do it, we don’t have enough fans, blah blah blah blah blah.” Honestly I’d like to find whoever sent you that email because that is absurd. I wonder if Value City ate the gear they had for sell? The freaking problem is that they know it’s a niche market and want to skyrocket the prices. There’s only so much a fan will buy at outrageous prices.

Here’s all I’m asking for ANY RETAIL outlet out there in the Charlotte/University City Area: Offer Charlotte gear, and at a reasonable price, and you won’t have to eat ****!
