Assistant coaches can cover up a head coach’s recruiting weakness.

Rob Moxley

I’ve no idea if Bobby actually hated the recruiting process, but it’s been said before.

“I coached against Bobby so I know from first-hand experience what an exceptional coach he is,” said Gottfried. “He has great ties in the state of North Carolina from his time at Charlotte and Pfeiffer and that will be a huge help for us in recruiting. That recruiting advantage, plus his on-the-floor coaching expertise, will make him an asset in every part of our program.”

He told me as much when I talked to him. He never liked the entire process. Wasn’t that kind of guy, wasn’t a salesman or a politician, didn’t particularly like the travel. Delegated all of that to his staff because he could.

But let the revisionist history continue.

We are only about 5 to 10 posts from him curing cancer.

Realistically, Sanchez is going to do just enough to stay. Big win today.

Which sucks.

Let’s just keep on with mediocre being our ceiling!

Bobby Lutz told me he loved to recruit Withers, Johnson, Young, Basden, White…trust me

Disliking recruiting does not equal being a terrible recruiter. IF he was a terrible recruiter, he must be an even better coach than I thought.

Could maybe add a third option for best coach Bobby included. Bobby may not be my first choice but he could end up being our best choice. If he’s the best option available that’s who we should go with. The poll basically forces you to pick Bobby or someone else.

A lot of seasons we swung for the fences and struck out and had to fill the roster out with juco players and junk. Sometimes it worked out, some seasons it didn’t.

Our recruiting as a whole was very weak after going to the a10, with braswell being one of the lone exceptions that immediately comes to mind.

To me, Bobby’s biggest downfall wasn’t his actual coaching as much as it was loyalty to assistants that weren’t getting it done on the recruiting trail. He got more out of less talented players than major and Sanchez recruited, but you can only squeeze so much out of mediocre players.

Much easier to recruit in the AAC.

Post 114 for something that just isn’t happening. Guess y’all as bored as I am….

Post 115 for Coach Lutz

Post 116 for strong consideration of Coach Lutz; if we have to replace our current coach.

That’s the point of the poll I created. Do you want Bobby or someone else. Me saying the best coach (not Bobby) is just saying not Bobby. It’s not saying Bobby isn’t the best coach. It’s Bobby or someone else. It isn’t complicated.

But in reality it’s not an either or situation. If Hill makes a run at Archie Miller but gets turned down & then the same happens with Pat Kelsey or someone else there becomes a point where Bobby could become the best coach available. If that’s how I would like the coaching search conducted how should I vote? I don’t see the option for best coach available even if that ends up being Bobby. Just saying I want Bobby to get the job means I don’t want to explore any other possibilities. Not trying to be difficult. I think you’re just looking at this like everyone is either for or against Lutz & I am somewhere in the middle.

It’s Bobby or the best coach Hill can hire that isn’t Bobby Lutz…. It’s not rocket science. I could change it to Bobby Lutz or just someone else but the way I wrote it is perfectly fine too.

If Hill made a run at Archie but gets turned down, wouldn’t that mean Hill couldn’t get Archie? So Archie wouldn’t apply to the scenario I presented.

I voted for Bobby because I know what we will get with Bobby. Best coach Hill can hire falls into the same category we been through the last 3 hires. You do not know what you are getting.

After watching Brendan’s bucket list video. Bobby had a philosophy for his team makeup. He always had a 3pt shooter and usually a great 4 man. The Center usually was a bruiser who main goals were to Rebound and control the lane. Each player knew their role and the offense was set up to use the strengths of the team.
