Thank you for putting this together, but I must say - that is depressing.

+1

If my math is correct, then CUSA 3.0 went 0-7 against the A-10 last season…that’s pretty telling.

Playing Fordham and Duquesne was awesome. What’s a UAB?

The A10 suffered a huge blow with the loss of Temple, Xavier, and Butler and will soon lose Dayton and Saint Louis…or possibly Richmond instead of one of those two, but Saint Louis is a virtual lock considering they’d leave Creighton on less of an island out west.

When the dust settles, the A10 won’t be any better than CUSA.

Very true - leaving the A10 now is similar to when we left CUSA 1.0. Most of the big dogs were leaving anyway.

Ironically, we were sort of one of the “Big Dogs” leaving CUSA-1 if you consider conference won-loss percentages, etc… but we were not one of the “Big Dogs” leaving the A-10.

I agree about the old A-10 and the CUSA when comparing. I was instead referring to how CUSA 3.0 going 0-8 against A-10 last year (counting us over ECU) and how that says a lot about how we should fare in CUSA 3.0.

Did anyone do this when we moved to the A10. I know there was a ton of talk about how we were able to hang with multiple top 10 teams and that the A10 should be easy for our battle tested program.

Our 1st year in the A10 we finished 19-13 overall and 11-5 in the conference. We lost the A10 Championship Game by 4 points to Xavier, then beat Georgia Southern in our 1st NIT game, and then lost to Cincinnati in our 2nd NIT game.

I remember it like it was yesterday.

Dude we got bounced in the first round in 2006, we always sucked in the A-10 tournament, I hated that thing.

I thought we were discussing our expectations for our FIRST year in CUSA-3 and our first season in the A10 was mentioned. For clarification purposes, I posted our results from our first year in the A10. I hope we’re not supposed to pretend we sucked that year, because we did not.

I agree Over, we did NOT suck the first season in the A10----but I thought that loss to Xavier was in the first round of the A10 (in Cincy) , not in the championship game.

It was. Curtis Withers’ senior year and we went out in the very 1st round to a X team that had a pretty disappointing reg season but came on in the tourney.

In fact, we never got to the championship game in the A10 tourney. I feel like we only got to the semis once (Leemire’s senior year). Most of the time, we were one and done in the A10 tourney.

The bold was incorrect, that was my only point.

Iron is correct, like I said, I hated that A-10 tournament.

The 2005-06 season was a huge let down, but that 2nd place (11-5) team ended up in the play-in round of the NIT was because of an abysmal showing against non-conference opponents.

Hell, we started that season 1-3 against teams that finished a combined 53-66 vs D1

That team did just not adjust well to losing Basden, Plavich, etc. And the team got better once Alexander became eligible.

Last year’s team went 5-8 against one of the toughest stretches on any team’s schedule last year, including two games against Saint Louis & Temple, a win at Butler, and wins over UMass & Saint Joe’s (40 points allowed). Oh, all while adjusting to the loss of Mayfield and JT Thompson. We’re replacing Braswell, Clark and Nickerson from THAT roster with Thorne, Bryan, Blakely & Lester (+ Cherry).

That’s five players taking the place of three on the roster that went 5-8 over a stretch no CUSA 3.0 team would’ve gotten more than 3 or 4 wins against.

Oh crap. You guys are correct on the A10 Tournament correction. My first mistake of the year. Anyway, my point remains the same. We finished with a strong conference record and won our first game in the NIT that year (none of this crap of worrying about finishing last or next to last in the conference back in those days). Anything less than at least a NIT 1st round win this year will be a huge disappointment.

It is time for the coaching staff to shit or get off the pot. All we have heard for the past 3 years is excuses.

Why were there excuses last year? Our best season since our first in the A-10 at the very least. I don’t think that needs any excuses.
