I dont know how interested anyone is in boxing but you may be interested in this. Calvin Brock is the 6th ranked heavyweight boxer in the world. He has a record of 28-0-0 with 22 KO’s. If you’ve played Fight Night: Round 3, hes on there. He may be going for a title shot in the near future. He is also, a Charlotte gradute (1999).
I dont know about yall, but as far as Im concerned, this a 49er thing right here. I think it would kick major ass if the heavyweight champion of the world was an alum. It would be great if we could find some way to give some support. I actually got to meet his “right hand man” and he told me that they may be setting up a fight for Halton Arena! If it does happen and we could show up there in big numbers and get some 40… 9ers chants and such going, that would awsome. His man said it would be some time later this year. Boxrec.com says something about a fight on June 24 but I dont know against who or where.
I think it would be cool to get some buzz around campus about our heavyweight hopeful. This thing could be huge. If you dont care too much about boxing, play Fight Night. After playing FN 2004, I was hooked. I really wanted to watch the fight he just had on Feb 25 but knew no one who was interested. Its awsome to play Round 3 cause he is in it and its like beating up fools in the name of my school haha. They talk about him being “The Boxing Banker” which is cool cause he went to our school, got his degree and became a banker, then went to fight in the olympics and then to the pros and this nickname is directly tied to our school. Im proud of our guy and hope you guys can get siked about him too.
If you want to know more, check out his homepage Calvinbrock.com. You can even join his fan club and Im sure hed love to have people from his own university showing him some love. His “right hand man” gave me his number and said he could hook us up with t-shirts for 5 bucks if anyone wants one. Lemme know what yall think.
I heard Calvin was kind of ticked at the Observer. Is that true? :ponder:
That’s whats wrong with this board. THE LACK OF INFO ON IMPORTANT TOPICS. Why couldn’t somebody have started a thread about this controversy earlier?
I hadnt heard anything. What would he be upset about? I dont know what bad could be said about him. He hasnt lost or drawn yet and hes not fighting schmucks.

You should write or email Tom Sorensen at the Observer and ask why he hasn’t done a big story on him. Tom’s the “boxing guy” at the O. He’ll be glad to hear from you.
Well I dont read the O that much. I dont get it and never bother with news too much. Most of it just bums me out so I never read and would never know if their was a big article on Brock.
I read most of that article the observer wrote after the last fight and that is pretty crappy. Calvin hasnt beaten the best yet but thats why he doesnt have the belt yet. He called a guy with 10 losses Duke Football and a guy with 9, Duquesne bball. Well that is just dead f’in wrong. Its all a matter who you fight. If I remember right, both those guys were in the top 50. Not the top 50 of 300some like in college sports. No they are in the top 50 of 1,115. Yea thats right, thats a comma in there. Not exactly a small number. They arent UConn bball or USC football, but hes getting their. But yea, I dont like the O that much now either. At least the boxing part.
Honestly I do think Calvin should fight somone in the top 15 before he makes a title run, but I think he can get it done. Many others have said many good things.
Apparently Calvin Brock is ticked at the O because they don’t give him the coverage he feels he deserves and that is why he doesn’t like to fight around here. Tom fired back at that about him and that he should complain because he has done as much as he could for him at the O. That is it if I remember correctly.
Apparently, we really, really need to convert our script markup for links to the traditional underlined blue text so people get our bad, bad jokes.
