They should have never left. They got too big for their britches in the Big South after having a little success. Their combined conference record in the A-Sun was 90-173 with no NCAA appearances, with an 0-20 record in the 04-05 season. Nice 15-year investment there, Campbell.

Campbell has a non Sunday play rule. They left the Big South because they were struggling to maintain that rule. I think they’ve made some compromised this time for post season play and such. They didnt really leave for the ASun/TAAC for big time expectations.

Hmm interesting. Do other religiously-affiliated universities have similar rules?? ie Wake, St Joe’s, etc?
Liberty has/had the Sunday rule as well. I don’t know if the Big South finally said, “play on Sunday, or DIAF” but I know my sister’s soccer tourneys always had the final on Saturday to accomodate Liberty.

Most of the Big South basketball games are Saturday/Monday, as they have also recently been in the A-Sun.
Campbell’s travel costs will drop significantly with this move and that is probably the main reason for it. The furthest conference foe in the Big South is 256 miles away (Presbyterian). Their closest in the A-Sun was the recently added USC Upstate (238 miles). Before the addition of USC Upstate, their closest conference member in the A-Sun was ETSU (282 miles), with the remainder of the members much further. No since driving that far and spending that much money only to get pounded and to have no true rivals.
There goes the ASun from NC. You had to believe Campbell was itching to do this though, especially since the only other team in NC, Gardner-Webb, has already jumped ship to the Big South.

That quote hits close to home.
The problem with you saying that is, it isn’t like the A-SUN is any better in basketball than the Big South. Actually, the Big South usually has a better RPI as a conference in basketball.

…and that’s the reason they are moving back to the Big South. It’s pretty much a lateral move competition-wise, and the travel costs are much less. Also, they get their traditional rivals back. I think it will also help them in recruiting better in-state talent, also.

Yep......... It's a shame we don't have this option, but we don't.
Also, they get their traditional rivals back.
And the only way we can get our "traditional" rivals back is to jump to a better conference.
