Campus Lake

Was on campus today and was wondering: What’s the status of the campus lake? Are they just letting it refill naturally? Is it refilling? It looks really bad and sad. :frowning:

Last I heard they were repairing the dam that keeps the lake full. No idea on the status of that repair.

It was drained during the 09-10 season, and hasn’t been filled back up. If they’re not going to be able to fill it back up, they need to start bringing in the dirt and fill it in. It’s an eyesore right now, and probably the first thing visitors really notice when they enter campus. Something needs to be done during the upcoming construction season.

Hechenbleikner Lake was supported by an earthen dam. The snow in early 2010 caused the dam to break and the lake flooded under the road supporting Broadrick Blvd. The lake was drained to alleviate the pressure on the road.

They hoped to start construction this Spring, but from what I’ve heard, the state hasn’t allocated the money to make the necessary repairs.

Our 2 entrances (though MUCH improved with the new entrance on 49) are really a tale of two universities. The view from 29, despite all the construction (more coming) is gorgeous. All the new buildings are showcased in one long range vista. The first building you see off 49 is the RDH…not good. I know we plan to add new facades to the towers and RDH but putting one on RDH first would be nice.

That ain’t good. With the way they’re cutting things in Raleigh right now, they’ll probably tell us that it will have to remain a large hole.

To make matters worse I understand Chapel Hill is asking for additional money for football tutors.

No, no, you clearly heard wrong. They’re asking for more money to up their players’ pay so they can hire their own tutors! They don’t pay them enough right now to cover that additional expense.
