Question… Where are the newly built Phase IX dorms located?
Drove to campus today to study and noticed the new JW Clay construction of what appears to be another entrance to our campus. Some new buildings back there to. Really surprising, didn’t even know they were building back there. From the other 29 Entrance, it appears to be more buildings to the right of Grigg hall, almost it seems right next to the hospital.
Also noticed all the construction like mentioned before. That whole CRI area is a buzz!
Noticed a few HUGE boulders, would be great if they were moved and used as spirit rocks or some kind of art. Can you guys believe all this construction? In my years on campus, it underwent drastic changes and I remember meeting some of you alumni then and you guys would tell me about how it used to look 5 years before I went there. Now I can be ‘that’ alum who tells the stories of how it used to be!
And the stadium! Wow, so many construction trucks out there. NNN is the direct cause of that!!! 10 guys at a Hickory Tavern once drank too much and decided to act. Jeez…
… been away from campus for like 6 months I feel like I haven’t been to campus in ages.
Here’s a rendering I found online of the original plans for the CRI campus entrance. Its dated 2007. If nothing has change, then I’d say this entrance is going to be pretty busy in 5-10 years.
Second rendering is for an earlier master plan. Dated 2005.

Are any of these buildings going to be parking decks?
Parking Deck I is under construction between Grigg and EPIC. They plan to add another behind the Kulwichi Center.

Deck I is under construction now, over by the new road from JW Clay.
Based on the 2009 Master Plan, I think those drawings are a bit speculative; they don’t match what’s in the current Plan. The PORTAL building is supposed to start construction soon. It’ll go where the contractor parking lot is now, across from Bioinformatics and Grigg.
Deck J is going over by the highrises.

The project will provide 1,000 spaces for a new parking deck located near the proposed residence halls at the South Village.
Facilities has a new campus map that shows recently completed construction and the footprint of new work. You can see the new rec fields by Wachovia Fieldhouse and on John Kirk, new parking lot by Robinson Hall, Phase IX / Spruce Hall, North Deck, Deck I at CRI, Motorsports II, tennis facility, etc.

That’s the first official University map with the football stadium mentioned on it too.
This is mostly about the floor tiles and patterns for EPIC, but on page 2, if you zoom in, there are floor plans, if you’re interested in that sort of thing. It’s a 24.9 MB PDF.

I’m very interested in floor plans. Thank you sir!
Check out the construction cam for 8:03 pm July 4th and see if you can see the faint rainbow. ;D

The University Foundation is located in the building across US49 from the west entrance. It used to belong to the United Methodist Church. Its basically the group that runs charitable contributions to the University.
Light poles from the former Rec Fields 8 & 9 (now football construction site) have been raised on the new rec fields by Wachovia.
Any idea what this is? Apparently the uni owns it now, per the new Master Plan.

It is a radio tower.
Ah, I can see that now, thanks! I wonder what, if anything, we’re going to do with it. I imagine we bought that property just because it’s mostly undeveloped and borders the university; to prevent unwanted development, etc.
