Can someone please explain to me why...

Iti got little or no run in the 2nd half? I thought he played very well in the 1st half. He was active, agressive, and doing a great job. On a possession early in the 2nd half, UH doubeld Martin 15 feet from the basket, and he in turn found Curt open for a dunk. Hell, we even had to run our offense through him on that one possession in the 1st half because Houston was denying the guards the ball. When Curt picked up his 4th, I thought Martin should have gone in for him. Nance’s “slide under” technique did not work one time tonight, and he fouled out in only 10 minutes. It was obvious that Martin’s length was bothering UH when he was in there. This is the 1st time since Yale that he was matched up against a team where he was obviously better than their post players, and he gets 17 minutes. We keep screaming about how he needs to get better, but he can’t do that sitting beside Tripp Miller and Sager. I JUST DON’T GET IT!!!

I was wondering the same thing during the second half. I thought Iti showed a lot of good hustle & effort in the first half when others seemed to be sleepwalking. He didn’t even miss a dunk <_<

What I heard of Lutz’s post game comments mentioned he was not happy with the overall rebounding effort in the first half. Perhaps that was part of the reason.

Yeah, must have been the rebounding. I thought he did come out with a little more than usual, but oh well.

Despite the fact that we won by 20, we missed a LOT of easy rebounds tonight. Hopefully, Lutz gets on their asses about that…

I think coach made the right move. They were out toughing us, he sent in his tough guy.

I agree. We were getting the ball ripped away from us underneath in the start of the 2nd half and coach got pissed and subbed in Drayton and Nance for Withers and Iti. He brought Iti back later when Nance picked up his 4th, but Martin never returned. I thought it was the right move, although Iti did OK in the 1st half and was intimidating some of their smaller players with his size when they drove the lane.

didn't you mean he brought back CURT but Martin never returned.

It looked like we were not blocking out for the rebounds as well as we could have. I noticed it a few times and then Bobby made his substitutions.

SMOOTHIE, I AGREE WITH YOUR POST 100%, and am glad to see someone else bring this up!!

There were 2 stretches (1 in the fits half & at the start of the second half) where I thought Iti was the best or 2nd best player on our team on both ends of the court. He really moved well laterally on D, had good vision on offense, changed multiple shots, was 3 of 4 from the field, was blocking out very well. I thought his one turnover was where he got obviously pounded down low, but no call was made (as often happened under the basket tonight).

Just before he was taken out for the last time in the second half, there were 2 drives to the basket that he (and Withers, I think) did not block, I thought because of great shots under the basket, and I was glad he hadn’t fouled the guy by swatting down at him. Nance was hustling, but not moving as well as Iti, IMHO, and did nothing to stop the drives to the hole except send people to the line.

My buddy and I were wondering if Iti were hurt, or maybe coach forgot about him over there as he sometimes says he does. Luckily, Drayton played a strong second half, and Withers didn’t foul out when he came in for fouled-out Nance with about 6 minutes left and 4 fouls himself.

GO NINERS!!!

Yeah, I thought Iti had a pretty good game, especially offensively. We got pounded on the glass in the first half and they also penetrated at will. I suspect it was his defense or disagreement with coaches. Heck, Curtis only had 4 rebounds and all were on the offensive end.
