the guy who Mike and Jim won’t mention who posted these pics, must be an absolute clown. How can you work for the Charlotte Observer, and think it was OK to post 12 Clemson pics and 5 Niner. Unless you are mismanaged…

nice pics you found HP, too bad they didn’t make it to our paper

I know I will probably get hammered for saying this but we got swept. We were outscored 18-8. What pictures are you looking for? Guys striking out, making errors, etc.?

One last thing before someone gets mad…I agree the O has ALWAYS been unkind to us. They SHOULD cover us because we are the hometown team…but if you want to be covered…do something worth covering. Being swept doesn’t cut it.

Same with bball. What stories should the O write about us this season? A story about whether or not we will make the A10 tournament is not what I want to read.

Wait a second. Are you saying the Anderson paper/site had more photos of Charlotte players than the O did?

I know I will probably get hammered for saying this but we got swept. We were outscored 18-8. What pictures are you looking for? Guys striking out, making errors, etc.?

Are you kidding? Why not? That is the current news about Charlotte bball.

we had a freshman take a 1 hitter thru 6, k’d 9

where is his pic - using your theory

to answer your question, you never bury the home team in its own paper
maybe it’s time for metro to retire again. I’ll buy the cake.
Apparently you don’t get it. Metro is hot for a very good reason. If O wants to be the Charlotte paper, they should cover Charlotte.

Thanks Metro!

.

Can we just see the statistics that back up the claim on the # of alums in the Charlotte metro area?

This comes up all of the time, but never is there any hard evidence supplied.

One call to Alumni affairs and you’ll have it. They supplied the numbers to me years ago! I’ll try to find them again as well.

In generalities (yes, I have numbers, updated last week), Charlotte is No. 1, North Carolina is No. 2, and the gap isn't as wide as some here believe.

But that’s only part of the story. People become fans of programs of which they are not alumni, as you know. The ā€œwalmartā€ fans, as they’re called on here.

If alumni were the whole story, I would expect Niners stories on charlotteobserver.com to consistently be at the top of the hit charts in terms of unique users, especially since we’re the only consistent source. They are not.

Wow, thanks for sharing those great insights. Now please show us the study/survey results which show that writing more stories about the ACC (Tar Holes) actually increases the number of papers sold. I believe I’ve asked you for this in the past, to no avail. I mean, I’m sure you have stats. to back up your claims, right?

Such a complete non-issue and waste of a thread. Really.

JIm, I love YOUR coverage dude, but you can’t possibly be unbiased in this discussion. Sorry our lack of hometown ā€œpressā€ IS a big deal!

It has been confirmed to me that an Observer staff member contacted the Alumni Affairs Office last week and was promptly provided the information.

They do good work over there when not eating burgers.

BULL****.

YOU OBVIOUSLY FORGOT ABOUT THE COREY SHAYLOR STORY THAT APPEARED IN THE NEIGHBORS SECTION OF THE SUNDAY CHARLOTTE OBSERVER LAST SEASON. I QUESTIONED MIKE ON IT AT THE TIME AND HE SAID IT WASN’T ON THE THEIR RADAR. THE STORY WAS WRITTEN BY JOE HABINA ABOUT A LOCAL, AS IN CHARLOTTE, HIGH SCHOOL KID HAVING A GREAT SEASON THAT ENDED UP BEING CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AND THE CHARLOTTE OBSERVER SPORTS DEPARTMENT DID NOT HAVE IT ON THEIR RADAR?

WELL SCREW THEM. GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR REAREND AND LOOK IN YOUR OWN _ _ _ _ _ _ _ CITY.

IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THE CHARLOTTE 49ERS ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT DOES…THE CHARLOTTE OBSERVER WILL ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO DOWNPLAY THE IMPORTANCE OR SIGNIFICANCE OF THE EVENT.

too bad you have dig to find it. without a map, a reader would think Jim only covers NASCAR.

I pulled up the website for The State Newspaper in Columbia, SC. Along with South Carolina football and basketball stories, I had no problem finding the Presbyterian College football schedule.

Easy Joe, the veins are bulging!

just curious. Do you have proof this picture did not go via AP?
Easy Joe, the veins are bulging!
thanks for your concern. i’m better now.

i get very frustrated when people think results will justify coverage in our own hometown. or when certain stories need to be written because there are lots of <insert school name, other than Charlotte> alums in the charlotte area.

clt isn’t just tired of the observer lax coverage of our athletics, the coverage of our entire university is lacking. you see great coverage when there is a robbery or a soccer player gets sick; but how many stories have you seen about the number one metrology lab in the world that sits at the cri?

Could you do me a favor and post those numbers, since you have them right there, and they are updated from last week. K THX
2nd.

The fact that anyone tries to defend the O on this is laughable. They don’t choose what goes up on their own website? Come on. Sure, we got swept, but you show pictures of us because it was ā€œCharlotte Losing,ā€ not ā€œClemson Winning.ā€

No, it’s not a big deal, but it’s another straw on the camel’s back.

you're a valid source....

If you don’t think there is a problem with all the Clem poics, you need to get the hell out of the Hayes press box. I can assure you I am not alone in this…think about it

:doh:98 mph fastball with wicked movement. Nice pitch metro.
