Per ESPN:

Clemson checks out 2012 point guardWith the start of the high school season in North Carolina, college coaches are hitting the road and scouting players. On Wednesday night in Fayetteville, Westover high junior point guard C.J. Ford drew Clemson coach Brad Brownell.

Ford’s team beat a city rival, Seventy-First, as the 6-foot-1 junior scored 12 points, had six rebounds and dished three assists. East Carolina, Miami-FL and VCU offered the quick lead guard.

The strength of Ford’s game is his speed and strength. He’s extremely quick with the ball in his hands and easily found seams to teammates. The next step for Ford, if he’s to ascend higher and receive BCS level recruitment, will be to develop his approach to the point guard position. The talent is there as are the physical attributes.

Are we for sure recruiting him or are you just providing a possible target?

we are listed with him on Rivals, that’s all I know.

Here’s his ESPN profile - listed as C.J. instead of Carlton.

In the “On The Trail” section, notes that Clemson coach Brad Brownell saw him play last night, while ECU, Miami-FL, and VCU have offered.

We are still recruiting him.

ESPN player evaluation

Strengths:He’s got the speed and strength you look for in a guard. Ford is a burner who can penetrate the seams and create. Many see him as a combo but long term he’s got the markers of a drive and pitch point with an ability to use his burst to get by guys. Uses his left hand quite a bit and is comfortable even going to the floater with his left.Weaknesses:
Needs to take over and impose leadership on his team. He’s not a vocal player and at his position, that’s got to change. Must find a way to increase his aggressiveness and focus at both ends. He’s an average shooter with a chance to be much better than that.Bottom Line:
He has the body and talent to play in a big league. The development of his game/approach will inevitably determine which level he settles in at. Physically, the tools are there. Some may see him as a combo and that’s fine though we’ve seen enough ability to create that feel he can make the complete transition to the point.
