Caught with our pants down…

It feels like we are going to get caught with our pants down between hiring an AD and needing to make a MBB basketball change and next year is going to be a total waste.

So, I’m throwing out this idea for discussion: Lutz for a one year deal? He could bring in whoever for assistants. I bet our NIL improves for next year. It’s a fun experiment down memory lane and maybe brings a little excitement and old fans back for his farewell tour of sorts. Hell, I doubt he does worse and he wouldn’t have to recruit. He’d probably love buying players.

Next year isn’t going to be good. I won’t be in Halton for Fearne again next year, but I would be for Lutz.

No. Just no. Bad idea and it won’t happen. We will supposedly have like 3 mill to spend in nil. If we get a good coach in place, they might have to scramble a bit, but the season doesn’t have to be a waste

Ha. Yeah it won’t happen. But I don’t have the feelz that we will move on a new coach because of timing. That NIL is going to get wasted by this staff.

The player auctions (transfer portal) start April 7th. It doesn’t feel like we could possibly be ready for that given where we are with the AD. I don’t see how it’s anyone other than Fearne or an interim at this point.

Why would he want to put himself in this mess
I still say Dinkins/McGinnis combo wouldnt be the worst move !

My concern is the future and where athletics fit with the priorities of our university. Personally, I’m at a point where I need some reassurance. No AD in 5 months is not reassuring. Did we not see the possibility of this timing issue coming with basketball?

I think the sad reality is that we can’t get an AD to come here that would be good enough to make a real difference. I think we have informality contacted the best options already and they have said no. Now we get whatever is left. :grimacing::flushed_face::smiling_face_with_tear::face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

I think you are probably basing that on nothing but pessimism. We didn’t think we’d fire hill, or be able to land albin. This is a desirable job and a forward thinking person will see that and not the years of chronic mismanagement.

The American Conference is still the best Conference in the G6. There are a lot of good candidates that would want an AD job with a University in our conference.

I definitely pessimistic. But I’m damaged by the last 20+ years of crap, crap, and crap. Glad everyone is not as negative as I am. I’d like to see us “back”, but I’m deeply into wait and see mode.

Maybe Hill proved to Gaber that we don’t need an AD to run a mediocre Athletic Department?

Let’s put that money into BitCoin.

Agree with points made here, we are already too late in this next cycle, so i see Fearne getting at least another year, also knowing how we operate.

April 7th transfer portal opens so schools will have their openings filled by first week of April, starting quickly behind the scenes now for the schools making coaching changes.

All of this moves too fast for our administration, we are clearly way behind as we have had no sense of urgency of even filling the AD position and we have not contemplated the timing if a bball coaching change has to happen.

Yep, the point of this thread is we have a lame duck season coming up. Can we make lemonade out of lemons?

clt thought we hired the Mooresville mayor as AD for a second

It will never happen, but I would love to swap out Fearne for Lutz right now.i think Lutz could do something with the talent on this roster. We paid way too much for this roster to see it wasted like this.
