I know y’all have seen 'em. The one on I-85 N near Blacksburg, SC and another near Asheboro. Anyway there is also one on NC 16 South just before it crosses I-40 near Conover. Always love seeing them.
To add to your excellent post, Exit 49 on I85S just so happens to also be at the Cabarrus/Mecklenburg Co. line. Would be a great place for a Welcome to Niner Nation sign. Just saying.
Yeah that sign is right in front of my church and my son’s school. I see it every day. Pretty cool.

Is there something special about it? If so, can you take a picture? Or is it just because it’s the number 49?

It’s only special because they are highway mileage signs that merely reads: Charlotte 49. Cool in a Zenful way, I guess.
In addition to this little tic, is that I have started taking pix of highway signs on my cross country trips that have 49 in them. I’ll try to post the 2 most recent. It’s driving my wife crazy, but I don’t care. I’m getting codgery, so deal with it.
49er1,
I love the California 49 sign. That’s a beautiful drive down through central Cal and Yosemite State Park. It’s kinda cool because that highway gets its name after the “49ers,” the wave of goldrushers that came to California in 1849 searching for gold. There’s still some abandoned gold mines around there if you know where to look.

Yeah, I knew. Ever see this place near by? It’s a cool-weird connection. I went inside and no one there had really heard of the UNC Charlotte 49ers. Their loss.

Well it’s cool because it says Charlotte 49. I’ll take one tomorrow.
Wow that is cool. With that area being so rural, I’m not surprised they’ve never heard of us. What town is that?

Groveland, CA on CA 120 http://www.booking.com/hotel/us/charlotte.en.html?aid=311088;label=charlotte-vz5Re9pNtGEBCWMts89ZgwS9413321883:pl:ta:p1:p2:ac:ap1t2:nes;ws=&gclid=COm_2-iAlrMCFY-d4AodHAIAlg
Last Friday, on the way up I-77 north in SC out of Columbia near MP 58, saw another mileage sign with “Charlotte 49” on it. If you’re ever coming up that way, look out for it. Interesting that both I-85 north and I-77 north in SC both have these signs. Still cool in a Zenful way.
Got this one near near Yosemite (Mariposa, CA).
Yes. That’s near the Charlotte Hotel (Yosemite) area I took the pix above. Cool.
They need a Charlotte 49er pennant and/or license tag to put on the wall!!
To go with the San Fran and Long Beach ones? I wonder if they ever heard of us "49ers’ on the east coast?

When I went into Charlotte Hotel, I spoke with a few in the lobby and the manager about our NINERS. Had NO CLUE. Kinda looked at me like I was an space alien that dropped into their midst. Anyway. I gave them a quick tutorial, for what it was worth.
