Charlotte 49ers Accepting Nominations for Inaugural Class of Program’s Athletics Hall of Fame

Ha ha. That’s a reach. Mullins revived the program. Melvin took it a step further and Bobby put us on the map. Lutz and Mullins are the first two in with Rose in the conversation.

Night in and night out Bobby went toe to toe with Huggins, Pitino and Calipari and won consistently. He filled Halton and got us on ESPN. No coach has done as much to raise the awareness of the university than Bobby. Hands down.

I like your thinking. But in his three years, Rose took us to the NIT and the Final Four. Yes, the cupboard was far form bare after Foster…who did an AMAZING recruiting job…but Rose’s COACHING got us there. I’ve observed on this board before that Foster could recruit a Muslim to a Bas Mitzvah and Rose would rather run a kid off than have to lick his a## or promise him “a little extra”. But we got a coach (Rose) who knew how to coach when we need one! He took us to a level that now defines The Gold Standard. I’m all in for Foster in the second class for the reasons stated above. His base was Charlotte College. I should add that Foster was among the greatest schmoozers I’ve ever seen. With his East Tennessee twang, he charmed the upper stratosphere of Charlotte’s elite.

those programs go to final fours and natty’s, us going to the dance is not incredible, it should be the standard.

We haven’t been to the Dance in over a decade. You could argue just making the Dance once now would be incredible. Going to the Dance multiple times in a five year span now would be very much incredible. Lutz did it in 5 of his first 7 years!!!

Lutz made the Dance our standard during his tenure.
No one else before him did that no one else since has done that…IN ANY SPORT HERE!!!

When you do something never been done before or since…THAT’s HOF worthy.

How is it that hard to comprehend!?!?

Jeremy Gunn says hi (as consistent in post season play as Lutz and took us to the final match)

Honestly not sure how we would ever find enough qualified candidates to even have a hall of fame if Lutz is not qualified. He has to be in the top 5 & maybe the only one qualified in the last 20 years.

Jeremy Gunn says hi (again)

Shouldn’t have made the last 20 years statement because I don’t follow soccer & other sports as closely as I do basketball & football. Gunn could very well be qualified. Just don’t see many candidates being more qualified than Bobby Lutz.

I would take Lutz first if for no other reason than he’s a Charlotte grad.

Aaaaand this is why they publicize the HOF. So we, as fans, will debate for weeks who is most worthy each year. Pretty brilliant way to keep fans engaged during football and basketball off-seasons.

Lutz absolutely 100% deserves to be in, probably not on the first ballot but he should be a lock.

Lutz should be a shoe in. Damn, those games he coached were exciting and his passion for his Niners is infectious.

At the very least, hang Lutz’s banner this fall. Certain people won’t be in power to oppose it then.

A certain person!

Shoo-in
I do remember Lutz coaching barefoot one game, though.

I didn’t want to be the one to correct it.

Lutz is the winningest coach in program history, he coached a majority of this tenure against the best competition this program has ever faced. Did it end poorly? Sure, but he joins a long list of coaching royalty that went out with a sour taste in their mouth. With Judy gone, and Phil leaving I’m hoping we see the right thing happen and Bobby gets the recognition he deserves from the AD.

The first class should be:
Athletes:
Cornbread
Melvin*
Henry Williams
Jon Busch
Paula Bennett
Lindsey Beam (or her sister Hailey)

Coaches
Mullins
Lutz

Anyone who doesn’t think this goes to Halton in class # 1 is higher than giraffe titties.

*Melvin gets the total package nod, amazing playing and coaching careers

clt says people are overlooking the mark price era

And the Ghostofclt era too.

Thanks, I wondered when I wrote it. It is one of those words I have said plenty of times, but I am not sure I have ever tried to spell it.
