So I can conclusively say the honeymoon is over.
If we want good coaches, it seams to me that we need better facilities. No reputable coach wants to come into a place that they are set up to fail.
We are moving to a stronger league. We need to make adjustments to our operating model including deficient facilities, and coach pay, to compete.
Weāre hoping to get better when the deck is stacked against us. Iām kinda resigned to the fact that our best days are behind us.
Hell, the pandemic showed me I can live without sports. See ya at the tailgates
I hate the cheats probably more than anyone on this board and especially CH Phil, but Iām not ready to give up on Mike. He got us into the AAC with the smallest football stadium in D1 and basketball bad to below mediocre for over the last 15 years.
And Judy got us into cusa without ever having played a down of football. Look at the other schools added with us and tell me they didnāt just pick the most urban schools, with thT notable exception of FIU, which is a complete train wreck.
I hear that a lot, but why didnt Ga. State get picked by cusa 1.0 or AAC this time?
As far as C-USA 1.0, that was a merger of the Metro and Great Midwest conferences and Georgia State was not a member of either. Canāt speak to AAC and the ATL but I have spoken with someone who told me that the Niners and UAB were the choices to make the move up if expansion had been limited to two new schools.
The aac didnāt take any sun belt schools with no indication they even considered one. Maybe they view sun belt schools below them?
Maybe they donāt want a school with very bad support with an in town power conference school.
If the aac took schools like utsa with arguably the worst school owned facilities in an FBS conference, or no support (Rice, FAU), clearly their standards werenāt really that high anyway.
Aresco never even visited our campus.
Exactly, expanding the football stadium is about recruiting and enhancing our football image, we have a glorified FCS stadium, we are an FBS program, we need to look the part, when we bring recruits in here and they see a stadium that is not much bigger than the high school stadium that they played in it is underwhelming, and yes I know that recruits care about history, tradition, scheme, and coaching staff, but these are 17 and 18 year old kids that we are recruiting and eye candy such as the stadiums, uniforms, weight room, and locker rooms are important to these kids and it will enhance the overall image of our football program and hopefully help us to shed our FCS image as we move into the AAC
Getting the AAC invite was far from a forgone conclusion. We were not on the radar at all 2 yrs prior. UAB was #1, we were #2. We very easily could have missed this.
Didnt you essentially just post it was all about just taking the urban schools? If so, why not take GS ?
I remember the cusa 1.0 start wellā¦there are no rules thoughā¦if it was ALL about markets only, they could have invited GS. I didnāt make that statement, another poster did.
Iām sure FAU, Rice, UTSA, and UNT werent on the radar either. The aac got raided, then punked by mwc teams and they got desperate.
If you think itās not a big deal Iām not gonna change your mind. As I said we very easily could have missed this.
Itās not that I donāt think itās a big deal. Itās that I think Judy, or virtually any other AD with a pulse would have achieved the same thing.
Just tired of everyone here thinking Mike Hill is something exceptional when we, checks notes, still suck.
clt says just Charlotte and UAB to AAC would have worked as well
in the sports that matter, menās basketball & football.
Right, and thatās all that matters to be relevant. Good for other sports if theyāre doing well, but they donāt help the profile of the university with the general public. Baseball probably does to a very small degree, but 95% it falls on basketball and football.
Yup - and Mike has failed miserably in basketball. To me - basketball is more important as itās the quickest way to become relevant. The fact that he decided to be stubborn with Hal Wissel reincarnated is infuriating.
