UCONN, VILLANOVA, GEORGETOWN have all won the title since Marquette. UCONN won it before they had FBS football.
Other non FBS teams that were ranked Number ONE include DePaul and St Joe, among others. Memphis and Cincinnati could almost be put in that category too. Who has the most prestige? VILLANOVA or WESTERN CAROLINA?
Considering both play FCS football, in that case I’d say the Natty Champ from 24 years ago and being in a conference with BCS schools gives Nova an edge.
Vilanova, Georgetown, and UCONN have all won the title without FBS football since Marquette won the title. We cannot throw away our other athletic programs for football.
Neither Vilanova, Georgetown, or UCONN played FBS when they won and they all won the title since Marquette. We cannot throw away our other athletic programs.
I have no clue who that is. You stated no non FBS school has won the Basketball title since Marquette. I stated Vilanova, Georgetown, and UCONN all won it without a FBS football program at the time they won it. I also implied I'd rather be a Big East non football basketball power than a Southern Conference football playing school no one outside of NC has ever heard of.
By the way. We desperately need football. We just don’t need to pretend we will fail at everything else without it.

We also don’t need to pretend that we can win a National Championship in basketball, in this current financial atmosphere, without the additional financial advantages that only FBS football will bring. Marquette and Villanova both won in a very different era of college athletics finances; and as I stated before UConn is the one and only large state funded school in a well-off state (financially), and also in a conference with BCS schools and were already (in 2001) moving to FBS level with a spot in the Big East and BCS waiting. They are a very special and most likely not to be repeated situation.
I would love to be proven wrong on this (in the next three years), but I doubt that chance will come:sad:at least before we move to FBS:thumbsup:
