Hey, a useful thread! Way to go, C-Pip.

should we really be bringing this 15-28 record up when we’ve only played the two elite teams of the conference a total of four times? I’m a big Charlotte fan, but the fact of the matter is there is no way we can hang against Chapel Hill or Dook

While what you say may or may not be a current fact, you probably want to add to your post total several hundred times or prepare yourself for constantly being doubted for your true Niner spirit.

you’re right, i should spend several more hours on the internet to become a bigger fan of the university i graduated from and attended nearly every game for

and as for being doubted for my niner spirit, i don’t really care what other people think

should we really be bringing this 15-28 record up when we've only played the two elite teams of the conference a total of four times? I'm a big Charlotte fan, but the fact of the matter is there is no way we can hang against Chapel Hill or Dook

why do school teachers “bring up” slavery. an extreme metaphor, i admit. but i’m not solely bringing our 15-28 record up, i’m trying to document our history in an easily accessed way. if you’re a big Charlotte fan, you’d care about our history, good or bad.

been on here for a while… not in charlotte anymore, i just don’t think it makes since to post a losing record to a conference we try and compare ourselves to, especially when we’ve not beaten UNC once a university that so many people on here put down

i plan on doing this for every conference in NCAA, i can’t do them all at once, i just started with the ACC because i figured more people will care. I’m pretty sure we have a winning record against other conferences, i’m sure you’ll be praising those threads.

makes a lot more sense now… it’s just whenever I see something on here about the ACC it’s usually talking about how it’s overrated or something to that effect, if this is just the first of many - it makes a LOT more sense.

Since we’re talking about history, some of these games mentioned by HP49er had a significant impact on our early years. They are:

vs NC State March 3, 1975, Away, 80-103, LOSS
This stomping was only our THIRD (I think) loss of the year but probably kept us out of post-season. It also happened to be senior day in Raleigh for a certain player who was National Player of the Year.
NC State February 11, 1976, Away, 64-67, LOSS
I was in Raleigh for this one. According to State fans, we had about as many fans there as they did (close, but not quite) and the officiating was very one-sided toward State (very true). The State fans were very impressed by our team and they were glad they did not have to play us again. Oops.... Guess what happened.
NC State March 18, 1976, New York City (NIT Semi-final), 80-79, WIN
This game had neutral officials and I guess the State fans were even more impressed. THIS GAME, COMBINED WITH THE WIN OVER HIGHLY RANKED CENTENARY THAT YEAR IN A SOLD OUT CHARLOTTE COLISEUM PUT US ON THE MAP.
vs Wake Forest January 22, 1977, Greensboro, 72-74, LOSS
SOLD OUT GREENSBORO COLISEUM THAT WAS HALF GREEN. Wake was ranked in top 10 that year and I think we were maybe ranked at the time in at least one major poll. Everyone knew we were very good before this game was played. Oh yea, the officiating sucked in that game too. Wake lost to Marquette that year in the Regional Finals or we would have been playing them again in the Final 4.

Yes, we should! Lets look at how many “home games” we’ve had out of these 57 games…hint, not many. In fact, its a lower percentage than our W/L record. You also must recognize that over 50% of these games have NOT occurred in the last 20 years (ie; they occurred MOSTLY on the road AND in our first ~15 years of DI existence.

Since 1990 we are 14-20 against the ACC. This includes the following:

10 “Home” games (including 2 at TWC)
4 “Neutral”
20 “Road”

When these factors are considered I don’t think the record is too shabby actually!

we've not beaten UNC once a university that so many people on here put down

They have not beaten us once in regulation, either. :dribble:

Each were OT losses.

We don’t refer to them as Chapel Hill around here. A simple 'hole would be perfect. One thing for sure, you got a hard on for Dook. Are you really a BIG CHARLOTTE fan? . . .Or just another . . .Ace in the hole.

??? So how is stating “there is no way we can hang against Chapel Hill or Dook” beneficial for NNN? You say we shouldn’t post the records because it makes us look bad, but what you posted is even worse.

Yep. And one of them was given to the tarholes by the officials on their homecourt.

I think this record is actually surprisingly good too, given the circumstances.

Home court is such a huge advantage, particularly if teams are anywhere close to evenly matched. Frankly, I’d love to see the powers that be finally get together and try to do something about the biased officiating for home teams. I know they never will, but if the NCAA stood for any kind of fair competition, they would. Of course, the officiating in a number of these games listed above was atrocious (exhibit 1: the Wake game a few years back the officials handed to Wake on a silver platter, Eric Williams ended up with zero fouls while covering Withers. Zero fouls!). We might still not have a winning record, but it’d be really close if we’re were anywhere near to even home-away.

Duke and UNC-CH were no surprise to me, too chicken to play us. GT surprised me until I saw the dates we played them.

The only teams that played us consistently home and away were Miami and Virginia Tech. Not a surprise then that we’re even against those two teams.

Virginia Tech was in our conference most, if not all, the times we played them, and Miami was in the Big East, so not really any ACC team has played us evenly(home-away) while in the conference.
