that’s pretty good, but there are some teams that we should def be ahead of ie… Davidson (60)
but they get the SoCon bid every year, so I can kinda see where they would leap frog us… bottom line, we need to go on 4 year elite 8 finish with a NCAA championship, that will help our stats out…haha

There are quite a few that should definitely not be ahead of us, in addition to Davidson. Good lord, they’ve got College of Charleston and Chattanooga both in the Top 50…Take a look at their resumes (specifically their post-season accomplishments) beside ours and tell me how they are ahead of us!..puuuulease

Total number of times Davidson has won the SoCon* and received an NCAA bid = 9. Now, the Cats do have 3 Elite Eight appearances, so that probably puts them ahead of us on the list.
Virginia Tech is in a four-way tie for 210th with Towson, Southern Utah, and Southeast Missouri State.
That list is awful
Siena at #67, while George Mason is at #100???
I don’t care if their Final 4 run was their only time ever in the NCAA Tournament (and it isn’t), they would still deserve to be much higher than 100.
That list is awful

At least we beat 1/2 or more of the BCS. That’s all that matters.
Worst list ever.
Don’t get too upset guys, just another way for ESPN to blow Duke.
That list is awful.
Yes, it definitely is. Guess someone at ESPN thought someone needed something to do this summer!
they must of let somebody’s seven year old kid compile this list.
I dont care if Im off topic - I love the avatar j2thak

- The SoCon began conference tournament play in 1939. Davidson played the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons as an independent and the next 2 seasons – 1990-91 and 1991-92 – as a member of the Big South with no postseason appearances during that time prior to rejoining the SoCon in 1992-93.
Yes, and Davidson also went 40 years between NCAA tourney wins…BY the way, we have 11 NCAA trips in the last 31 years, including 10 in the last 20, with multiple tournament wins, not to mention a FF, which Davidson doesn’t have.
Calculations are only since the '84-'85 season. Our Final Four run doesn’t even count, but on the other side, neither do the Wissel years. Here is the points system -
• National title … 25
• Title game loss … 20
• National semifinal loss … 15
• Elite Eight loss … 10
• Best record in conference’s regular season … 5
• 30+ wins in a season … 5
• Sweet 16 loss … 5
• Conference tournament title … 3
• AP first-team All-American … 3
• Losing in NCAA second round … 3
• Player in top 10 of NBA draft … 2
• 20-29 wins in a season … 2
• NCAA first-round win as a 12-16-seed … 2
• NIT title … 2
• AP second-team All-American … 2
• NCAA tournament berth … 1
• Postseason NIT berth … 1
• AP third-team All-American … 1
• NCAA first-round loss vs. 12-16-seed … -2
• Losing season … -3
• Ban from NCAA tournament … -3
Minimum 15 seasons in Division I
** Ties are broken by overall winning percentage since the 1984-85 season
^^ Teams are listed by their current conferences
I’m almost certain that Duke will be 1st with all the Final Fours they went to from '86-'94, plus another national title in '01 and runner-up finish in '99 and semi-final finish in '03(?).

Well, that explains it, a terrible points system…Davidson and others rack up because of accomplishments in their weak little conferences. Lower seeded teams even get rewarded for winning first round games (a low seed gets 2 points for winning a 1st round game, higher seeds do not and then gets MORE points for losing in the 2nd round). Think about that…a 12 seed gets 5 points for going out in the 2nd round, while an 11 seed only gets 3…Why is is weighted like this if it is a measure of “prestige”? …ESPN is a joke!
…ESPN is a joke!
I’d say they are prepping their hype for next season’s games on their network. And… their perpetual blow of dook, et al.
Yep, it’s a joke. Hmmm… Maybe Bobby can use this as a recruiting tool and tell recruits we finished ahead of all those BCS schools. We’re even more prestigious than Notre Dame.
We finished ahead of half the SEC… but the fact that NC-State finished in the 50s proves this is a joke, especially since the time period doesn’t begin until the mid-80s.
Yes, it definitely is. Guess someone at ESPN thought someone needed something to do this summer!
why do some of you oppose this list?
its for the most part 100% objective, just look at the criteria they used to rank teams by points:
• National title … 25
• Title game loss … 20
• National semifinal loss … 15
• Elite Eight loss … 10
• Best record in conference’s regular season … 5
• 30-plus wins in a season … 5

• Losing in NCAA second round … 3

Metro, did you read my last post? Look at how they “awarded” points and actually think about them (in the context of measuring the “prestige” of a program). Some of the points awarded are ridiculous.
