We’re going to call last week progress and hope for more to come. Took three out of five, including our first C-USA win. Several guys hade big weeks, including senior Corbin Shive (.375, 6 RBI/1-0, 0.00 ERA) and freshman Logan Sherer (.421, 8 RBI). This week provides a good chance to help the league with OOC wins as all five games are vs non-conference opponents. Fireworks are after the game on Friday night and Saturday’s game takes place after the Spring game.

Lots going on this week. Another quality OOC weeekend opponent coming in, fireworks night, and the spring game. Evansville has a stud lefty, Kyle Freeland, projected to go in the top 2 rounds of the MLB draft this spring. I’m not sure if he will go in game 1 or game 2 on Friday.
• Although Evansville lefthander Kyle Freeland’s delivery and arm slot give may cause some evaluators to question his ability to stay in the rotation, he is filling up the strike zone as effectively and often as any college starter. Freeland went eight innings and did not surrender a walk to any of the 34 batters he faced against Indiana State. He has walked just two hitters in five starts this season, which equates to 1.5 percent of all hitters he has faced. Freeland is striking out more than a hitter per-inning (9.80 with an otherworldly 17.5 strikeout-walk ratio. The Colorado high school career strikeout leader has a fastball that typically ranges from 89-93 mph, touching 94 from a quick arm. His slider gives him a plus weapon to couple with a mid-80s changeup. Freeland is young for the college class and will turn 21 less than a month before the draft. He has a lean, athletic build at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds that offers projection.
The good news is in
2009 it took 9 conference wins to crack the top 8
2010- 10 wins
2011- 9 wins
2012- 5 wins
2013- 7 wins
Now for the April Fools part (a day early)…there were only 9 teams during that span :p
What are we, 5-6 games out of 8th with 18 conference games left? Not really expecting to make the trip to Hattiesburg at this point.
Rice (9-3) 21-9 overall
Southern Miss (6-3) 15-13 overall
UTSA (6-3) 19-9 overall
UAB (6-3) 19-9 overall
East Carolina (6-3) 17-11 overall
FIU (7-5) 22-6 overall
Middle Tennessee (7-5) 12-14 overall
Old Dominion (6-6) 16-11 overall

We are 5 games out of 8th and have already played or do not play 5 of the current top 8. We are going to have to take care of business against La Tech, Tulane, and FAU. And string together some wins against USM, UAB and UTSA. I think we need to win at least 12 of 18 to even think about a top 8 finish. I mean even if we went 12-6 at least one of the teams with 6 conference wins right now like ODU for example would have to go 6-12. So yea not good odds
A pair of former North Carolina collegians are coming to Kannapolis. Former Charlotte 49ers hurler Tyler Barnette is returning to the area after making his professional debut last season with Advanced Rookie Bristol. The right-handed pitcher, who was named Atlantic-10 Freshman of the Year in 2011, was drafted by the White Sox in the 14th round of the June 2013 First-Year Player Draft.

Good for him. Was looking at the niners in the pros link from the school and was kinda disappointed to see only Barnette and Justin Seager listed. For a while there we had 5 or 6 players but I guess some of that is the result of recruiting to the A10.

Yep. We had 4 last year, but Miguel Rodriguez is not back and John Maine retired.
I’m guessing Butler will be drafted and go at the end of this season. Not sure who else in this draft.
Saw in Hibbs postgame after the Upstate game that we will have several recruits in town this weekend. For those that are going to the spring game head over to the Hayes and show some support for the baseball teams as well.
