$500 million price tag!

This is right around the corner from me. They already tore down a bunch of old apartments and the townhouses on the Horizon land are really run down. Would love to know who the grocery store is. Last site plan I saw showed it at 85,000 square feet, which is bigger than the biggest Harris Teeter. Kind of hoping it’s a Wegmans.

I used to live nearby - would bike there as a kid and buy comic books at the newstand there. I knew it had been run down for a long long time. Hope it makes a nice comeback.

Charlotte’s future medical campus and innovation district in midtown — at the intersection of Baxter and South McDowell streets, near Pearl Street Park — will open in June, according to an Advocate Health spokesperson.

Why it matters: With its four-year med school, The Pearl is expected to turn Charlotte into a global destination for medical expertise and research, invigorating the economy.

The first phase includes two buildings. One is the 14-story Howard R. Levine Center for Education, home to Wake Forest University School of Medicine. The school will seat its first 48-student class this fall. It will eventually grow the annual class size to 100.

PowerHouse Data Centers and Town Lane, a real estate investment management firm, formed a joint venture to purchase 122 acres off University City Boulevard. An entity affiliated with the joint venture bought the site in late August for $45.5 million, according to Mecklenburg County real estate records. The site will be home to a five-building, 2.5 million-square-foot data center campus.

Probably should have been the full-blown two block cap instead of just the bridge. That would really tie South End to Uptown and open up opportunities for festivals and provide green space
