I can’t believe that “someone” spent $52M and we still have bumper-to-bumper traffic daily between exits 23 and 25. Thanks I-77 Immobility Partners.
I hate 77 and I hate the toll lanes even more. When I drive through what I consider much less trafficked areas on interstates and they have four or more lanes that are free use I just shake my head.
Pisses me off every time I drive through a less populated area that is having crazy interstate widening projects without tolls.
That project was all about a money making opportunity and not about serving the public need.
That stretch of road is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. One of the worst decisions in the state / local government history.
I think it’s more about spending distribution in NC. Can’t give too much money to Mecklenburg County or the folks out in Rockingham might not get their interstate.
I think the “worst” decision is doing all over again on I-77 South
It’s a weird setup. Ideally more people would use the toll lanes and traffic would flow smoother in the free lanes. That would bring the price in the toll lanes down. But instead, since nobody uses them traffic is basically at a standstill, which increases the toll cost.
Actually that demand pricing is there to keep the toll lane moving. More people inn the toll lane doesn’t reduce price. They are trying to guarantee a minimum speed by pricing people out during high demand. If enough people were in the toll lane they would actually increase the price.
So I have it backwards? Gotcha.
Still, plenty of capacity in the toll lanes before speeds start dropping. I can go 80 in them while traffic is stopped in the free lanes.
clt says they cannot fine you if you have a fake tag
They must not be familiar with the city’s well-developed street racing scene.
When I look at their list of most exciting cities one thought leaps to mind.
It IS exciting trying to avoid danger. Very exciting.
