Charlotte @ Duke 10/31 7PM RSN

I really think Chris’ shoulder must be messed up. Why else for the total 180 in his usage? Play calling is still bad but no OC would completely abandon what made Reynolds a success last year. That hit he took at App I think totally changed the offense.

With that said Reynolds isnt the QB run the offense they are calling for him. Let him get the shoulder healthy and try something different.

Year 3 for Healy is a huge year. Need Reynolds healthy.

Wonder if one of the new QBs next year will push Reynolds

I think its more than just the shoulder. He looks slower for some reason. I love Chris, but something doesn’t seem right. Its like he has lost a step on the field in every game we have played when compared to his agility last year.

It might just be gun shy about taking another hit to the shoulder. I dunno though. I agree he’s not playing with the same edge and speed. I think the staff has told him not to take off unless he absolutely has to. It’s made him indecisive and slower since he isn’t going on instinct.

First half was rough. Wife and I set up the tv outside and made a fire. The game made it a bit miserable.

Really enjoyed the second half though. Packed up the tv at halftime and just enjoyed the fire and our beer.

Chris is running for his life behind an OL that I saw chasing DL instead of blocking them. Poor effort on behalf of coaches and OL. The OL was much better last season. So was the play calling.

In high profile games for Healy that directly affect recruiting (App x2, Clemson, Duke and the bowl game) Charlotte has been outscored 227-99.

I don’t think Clemson result had any impact on recruiting besides just getting TV coverage.

Agree with the other games though.

I think you are probably correct. 177-92 then. Average 44-23 against teams we should be competing with.

We were in the App games for the most part, I think those games actually helped us by showing we are close and we were in the game and could compete. The bowl game and last nights game on the other have to hurt as it appears we are no where close to where you want a recruit to think we are.

The good news is healy landed the 71st ranked class with 6 local kids off Lamberts record. Will be really interesting to see where this years class lands and the oddness of so many schools not playing football in the fall if at all. Going to really make talent evaluations difficult.

Not sure how much this mattered, but Duke did have two weeks to prepare for Charlotte. Hope it was not that big of a deal since Middle Tennessee will also have two weeks to prepare for the 49ers.

I definitely think they saw something on tape for the block punts.

One would think that with an OL that has an all conference center and 2 returning would be solid. The coaching has fallen off. So much for hiring an Analyst from A&M as OL coach.

What boggles my mind is comparing this game to how we have played App St the last 2 years. Unless I’m on crack…I believe those 2 App St teams were better than this Duke team. Maybe by a little or a lot…but better.

In both App St games we were competitive. We struggled defensively but they didn’t just steamroll us. We also moved the ball and scored easily on them (especially the first game with a healthy Reynolds). They beat us and had more talent than us but we competed closely and it showed we weren’t that far away from where they are.

That App St team that we hung with for 2 games would almost certainly beat this Duke team 6 out of 10 times if not more. And yet this Duke team manhandled us all over the field in every phase. Manhandled…almost toyed with us.

So, how does that make sense?

How can we seem that close to a better App St team and a month later look like we’re a decade away from being competitive against a lessor Duke team??

Football is about matchups. Maybe we just don’t matchup with Duke as well as we do App. I also think App goes into their P5 games with laser focus. They play nearly mistake free ball. That wasn’t us last night.

Agree 100%

Did I expect a blowout loss? No. However, not surprised.

People who say Charlotte recruits against Duke are delusional - Duke recruits nationally for skill players, and many of their recruits are at least 3star. Just a few years ago their QB went first round in the NFL.

For argument’s sake:

Duke 2020 Class # 63 on 247 Sports

Charlotte 2020 Class #71 on 247 Sports

Now, since I am one of the ones who mentioned recruiting in state, I will clarify what I mean. It means that for any given 3 star player in state we may be recruiting against App, ECU, Wake, Duke, State or CHeat, just like Healy said. It doesn’t necessarily mean we will beat them in every or even most matchups… But we should have the mindset that we can win a few, and specifically our fair share.

While it’s not the only reason a recruit may use to make up their minds, when you get your ass spanked by an in state team that may also have an offer out to a kid you’re looking at, it doesn’t help your cause.

This isn’t rocket science folks. We all know what we are talking about here. In state games matter. They produce or sometimes shift the pecking order. Win some, lose some, but by all means don’t embarrass yourself.

At the start of the 2020 NFL season Duke and 6 former players on active rosters. Charlotte had 4.
