Let me start this post by saying, I know there were a lot of people yelling at the tv and throwing things that weren’t able to go to the game. This is not a post for you guys, or the ones at the basketball games at home that jump and yell. Today at the game however our fans stayed on their rears all game and were damn near silent. The only time they stood was when Withers fouled out. I cheer for this team every home game and at the tournaments. Sometimes Halton arena can be a formidable home advantage, but we may as well have been playing in Raleigh today. State’s fans stood and yelled all game while our fans sat there silent. Why go all the way to Mass to not participate at all? Way to leave the guys on the floor with no support. Just had to let that out
I couldn’t agree more. For most of the game the band, cheerleaders, and Gold Dusters were the only ones making any noise at all. I’ve never seen a Niner crowd look so apathetic - I was embarrassed for us and our team. I saw Over40 at the hotel after the game - he was hoarse from screaming so much. I bet he’s the only one.
yeah i will definitely have to agree the few students that were actually at the game were yelling which was basically the band, cheerleaders, and dance team and what ever norm could do without talking…but still i was really disappointed with the lack of support that our basketball team received when our players did anything remotely decent on the court its like they were there but they really didn’t care about who won…as for our opponents the entire section of seating that they were given was on their feet chearing a lot of the game…its like ya’ll gave up hope once we lossed the lead…where is the niner spirit that we want to keep and maintain…
a true niner maniac
Upon reading this board over the last day… we truely are the Charlotte Whiners.
Whining because most of our crowd sat on their butts looking like they were sitting at mass? Sorry if that’s whining, but I’ll whine all day long then because it was down right embarrassing. I know there were some fans that were up on their feet and yelling but those were very few. If you were one of those few, thank you. The band, cheerleaders, dance team, and Norm were doing whatever they could to get people to stand up. We begged people and screamed, but most people sat there looking as if they were just staring into space. The band could not stand up because the NCAA does not allow us to, but I was screaming til I couldn’t scream anymore and jumped up when I could get away with it. I don’t know why people bothered to come to the tourney if they weren’t going to cheer for the team! The best fan there was Brendan’s little cousin. He was jumping up and down and yelling the whole time. I always saw him doing the “FORTY!! NINERS!!” chant. Even if the crowd could have just stood up once towards the end and encouraged the team, it would have been better than nothing. As someone in our band said," It looks like they just picked up a bunch of random people from Massachusetts and put Niner shirts on them." It’s very sad. Thank you to the fans that always cheer, no matter what. I was born into the world of 49ers and I will be a Niner fan til the day I die. In other news, Over40, nice to meet you yesterday. Nick, we could have used you yesterday.

Agreed , and Agreed.
And yes, as much as I refuse to get on this board and whine or bitch or whatever you want to call it…for God’s sake people that was pathetic. Cowbell and I were so tired from playing drums AND trying to motivate such an apathtic crowd that it was ridiculous. I mean come on, people, it’s those kinds of fans that have become the reason Charlotte KEEPS reputations like “Second-Rate,” “Suitcase School,” “Forty-Whiners,” etc. When you can just sit there all game like a bump on a log, and then bitch and be animated AFTER the game is over…it’s just disgusting to me. Do something to help your team get in/stay in the game, or for God’s sake just watch it on ESPN and let someone who gives a damn buy your ticket instead.
If a team’s students, fans and alumni don’t give a damn, why should anyone ELSE In the College Basketball world.

that is a compleatly ignorant comment, the true fans could not go a the way up there for a 12 noon game. They were in charlotte, piassos was as loud as ever and it sounds like louder than the people at the game not to mention all the people watching on tv.
Yeah they do suck. I went to the USF game and me and my 4 friends were the loudest in there. NONE of the other Niner fans cheered at all, even a couple of young guys wearing NN shirts. . . geez, grow some balls!
FinalFourty,
My comment was not made out of ignorance, nor was it meant to be taken literal. I know that most of the true fans couldnt afford to go up there. Hell from what i understand, it’s over two hundred bucks to buy the RIGHTS to go up there…let alone the fifty more for the actual ticket. what I meant by that comment was that, I guess there are other TRUE fans that were much more DESERVING of those seats than the people that were in them.
And thank you for the support at picassos, in all seriousness. I’m glad people who can’t be there can at least show as much heart as possible.
So please, before branding something “ignorant,” try to understand that it wasn’t literal…and that my sentiments were in the right place. No hard feelings, however. Glad at least SOMEONE can voice their opinion and their support for Charlotte basketball.

I was at the USF game and Mr. Bojangles, his girl and myself were cheering the whole time. So was the Ambassador of Qwon.

I agree. We’re not saying anything about true fans. I know there are plenty of true fans out there that could not go. But the people who did go did not appear to be very “true” (for the most part).
You mean people who put down money to go to Mass (not people who got a free ride for being in the band), who took off work to watch their team play however many miles away, aren’t real fans?
Give me a break people. This is so damn childish. Who’s the bigger fan? All the band people are saying is those that were there didn’t seem to be in the game. I don’t think they’re in any way calling someone on here less of a fan. This is so damn stupid. We can’t win a game in the NCAA"s and we’re arguing about this shit.
I nominate this for dumbest post of the year!!!1

Sorry if I feel a little disappointed when all the band, cheerleaders, Norm, and the dance team are screaming and motioning for them to stand up and all they do is stare back at you. And even if I wasn't in the band, I'd still be going to the tourney. This way I just get to be a part of two things I enjoy-Niner basketball and playing music.
