Charlotte hires Michigan AHC Biff Poggi as football coach

No idea if this is good or not yet. We’ll all find out together. I will say he looks the part and it feels good to have a guy I view as a coach not a cheerleader.

Bye bye to that silly ass Club Lit I hope.

I love the club lit idea but only after big wins. I don’t think it fits into Biffs personality though. Think we are going to see a shift back to more traditional coaching.

I want a coach that talks a big game and then backs it up. I want kids that celebrate success but understand what is worthy of celebrating. A coach that can talk with donors and find new ones, manage a program, sell a program, hire the right assistants, etc.

If he’s a mix of the best of will with some old school football mixed in and some deep pockets that sounds like a winner.

Sounds like he has been pretty much coaching the Assistant Coaches at Michigan. That gives me some confidence that he can identify good assistants, bring them in here, and groom them to be successful.

The more I read and research I do on our new Football coach, I believe we have ā€œmined goldā€

I will consider this a successful hire if we make three bowl games in the next five years.

He basically bought his High School teams. This
will be very interesting to watch play out.

Don’t like that he is not starting until Michigan is done, going to be a while.
What are our kids thinking/doing while waiting for a coach to show up?
I have popcorn and will be watching intently.
Seems like he has good intentions, and I am pulling for him, but this is a slippery slope.
Big Gamble by Hill.

I am assuming he will go ahead and hire his staff to get to work here and then will multi task until Michigan is done.

Can’t wait to see who he hires as coordinators. That will be very telling

That is my measuring stick too. Who do you know that you can convince to come with you to be a part of this?

Popcorn is out. This is going to be a wild ride.

I’m just going to be patient, watch it play out…just as I was with Brad and Will…silly to judge it now it seems to me.

Watching the episode where one of his 4 star LSU commits has his scholarship pulled after being committed for over a year, and no reason was given. Brutal. Coach was pissed and told LSU no more visits, etc.

He also was going over each player’s grades / eligibility and recruiting interests, regardless of how many stars they had. He took pride in all of them getting opportunities.

Biff is someone I can get excited about.
I hope Niner Nation as a whole can do the same.
We need an injection of enthusiasm into this program.
The Michigan fan base is highly disappointed to lose him.
They know him much better than we do.
Our fan base seems initially disappointed.
Let’s not be part of the problem.
Only if we are excited will our community follow. We are a large part of building a culture here.
I wanted Holtz, Mullen, or Fedora but now I love this hire.
Watch the E60 episode.
This is a guy everyone should easily find a way to get behind.
Many other programs are looking at our new coach and saying, ā€œdamn.ā€
ECU, look what ended up happening when you stole away our coach. Now, take what you have coming!
And, no ECU. We will not trade you Houston for Coach Biff. You must play with the cards you have now been dealt.

Since there are really no rules on paying players, I support he can pay transfers out of his pocket to come to Charlotte? I have to wonder how much $$ he offered Hill for the job:)

It really comes down to recruiting and coaching them up for schemes that fit the team strengths. That also takes talented assistants. Who knows, at 62 and well funded, maybe Biff is looking to make his permanent mark on the football program, as a monument. Or this is Hill’s last dance and with the swan song playing

Why would they want to trade? The 6-4 and going to a bowl game. If it was meant to be sarcastic, my apologies

Perhaps Hill is looking to follow the Joe Moglia/Coastal Carolina model? Seems similar…but I still don’t think it will work.

I will remain positive until he gives me a reason to think otherwise. I agree this hire may be a head scratcher, but with how quickly the college football environment is morphing (e.g. NIL’s, transfer portal, etc.), we really don’t know who will or will not succeed, no matter their past experience. I agree that a Mullen or Holtz may be a better pick on paper, but how well could they adapt to the new college football approach. I guess we shall see if Biff can or has been able to adjust. I have yet to be shown evidence that he can’t be successful at Charlotte. I hope he is able to keep our current studs and then bring in some more horsepower from the portal so that we go into the AAC with some swagger.

I think the portal will be critical for success next year.

Have to land a solid QB. Most important position in sports.
