This is the answer. They want us to be what FCS App used to be or Gardner-Webb is. A safe spot for their backups. Outside of winning games getting kids free rides to college is a HS coaches #1 priority, which often clashes with the college coaching staff’s #1 priority, winning college games.
All this goes away if we win games.
I want to recruit Charlotte and the surrounding areas but they should be a legit recruit.
he’s right, how the heck could we let Drake Maye and Will Shipley get away?? not to mention Hendon Hooker from just up the road in Greensboro.
And lets not forget, this coach that Poggi was so valuable to, has taken a team to the Super Bowl
Yep. We try to get the blue chippers, they go elsewhere so these butt hurt coaches think we’ll take their 3rd and 4th stringers and if we don’t they say this crap about us? Screw this guy and any others like him who think we’ll just take anyone because they’re local. Screw them!
I don’t think it is about the local coaches wanting to off load their “B” players to CLT. I follow HS football in the region. I have heard more that a couple coaches in the area talk about this. The local high school coaches want the local college coaches to touch base with them consistently throughout the year. They want an open dialogue. The problem that the local HS coaches had with Healey was there was no communication between Healey and his staff until Healey saw a local player that he wanted then a Healey staff member would contact that HS coach. Recruiting is based on relationships. Perhaps this is why Healey had difficulty recruiting. The local HS coach is going to direct his players (A and B players) to college coaches that he has a relationship with. It is very simple. Local coaches have had difficulty understanding why Healey and his staff would not build those relationships. A lical HS coach will send his players to college coaches that he knows and trusts and this can only happen with relationships built between the collegiate coaching staff and the HS coaches.
It is human nature. If you have an old replica auto that many people want, who are you going to sell it to? You could sell it to one of your very close friends that want it. Or you could sell it to me. Although I k ow you very well, I do not come around you much unless I want something from you. I am too busy to spend time with you. I am a bit arrogant. I feel like I am important . I make more money than you or your friends. So, I only come around you when I need something. Who are you going to sell your auto to?
My miscomprehension about this subject and the “feedback” from Local Coaches is, that is exactly what they supposedly said about Lambert. Maybe it’s a “me” problem with them and they want to get a little attention. As Hill and most have said, everyone recruits the Charlotte area and NC. Colleges recruiters only have so much time and can only spend time on Kids they think they have a shot at. I just looked at our roster, there are 55 players from NC and 32 are from Charlotte area. I know I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, what what do they want? what am I missing
All I k ow is that numerous coaches have stated that CLT is the only local university of size in NC and SC that does not build relationships. Since numerous HS coaches are saying this, it looks like a problem at CLT. I doubt if local HS coaches have a vendetta against CLT. I am sure that they would want their players to stay in town to play. And some of the coaches making these accusations are some of the more successful coaches in the area. These are coaches that are straight shooters. We will see if things change with the new staff. But CLT is a hotbed for H S talent. CLT must be successful recruiting in its backyard. There is too much talent here to ignore. If other coaches have the time to build relationships, our coaches should have the time or take the time also.
We are going to get some players locally since we are the local university. But to get the best players, the relationships may need to be developed.
Well I hope Biff can heal these relationships if true.
Healy was hired to repair these relationships and he didn’t do jack shit apparently
Wilkins popped for Ga Tech
Darn.
Hard to take that seriously when you dont even know how to spell Healy.
Well, it seems local coaches are open for improved dialogue. I am sure Biff will improve local relationships. BTW, I am drinking the kool-aid until they start serving unsweetened
I get the back and fourth with local coaches, but the question I would pose to the squeaky wheels is “what have you done to make sure X player was seen by a local D1 school?” It’s a 2 way street.
