I would take Claxton and a couple first rounders for Ball. Maybe even Claxton, a first and a couple of 2nds. Would be really disappointed if they held onto Ball and traded Sexton. I think Sexton has that attitude and drive that Ball will probably never have.
Iām hoping that Sexton rubs off on Ball. I think he did make progress with his defense last year, and I donāt believe he was hurt as much as it appeared last year. I think he was held out games to help the draft pick. If Ball doesnāt play at least 60 games this year Iām all for trading him for a bag of chips.
Iām inclined to say Ball gets one more year for me, to see if he can play like 90% of the season injury free. But Iām quickly turning to thinking like you, that the Ball experiment isnāt going to work.
OMG. Itās worse than I thought. Kon didnāt do squat in his summer league debut.
Please let this be an aberration.
Please donāt let my fears that this was a terrible wasted kick at NUMBER FREAKING 4 IN THE DRAFT come true.
I just have a bad feeling that all the ādraft expertsā who were circle jerking each other about how smart they were going against traditional wisdom with Knuepel have done it again.
Like they did last year with Reed Sheppard. Who could barely get on the floor for Houston last year.
They circle jerked themselves into a frenzy that he was so amazing last year and they are still clinging on to hope with him. Sorry guys. If your a top pick and your not injured but canāt get on the floor something is very wrong.
Hereās an idea.
Draft high upside players early in the draft that have size and athleticism.
Maybe that will work.
I mean the Rockets could have had Stephon Castle!! Who was sitting there for them. Yes that Stephon Castle the big powerful athletic guard who had just played a huge part in UCONN winning the title.
But they had to overthink it. Just like the Hornets did.
Yeah Iām not really basing this off of yesterdayās game but I donāt get overthinkiing a top 5 pick. Someone taken that early should have the athletic ability to be a superstar. I think Konās ceiling is a Cody Martin level role player. I did watch the game and he just didnāt do anything to make himself stand out while McNeely looked like he should have been the 4th pick. Hopefully he proves us wrong and develops into a great player. I just think itās a really big risk where he was picked.
Funny reading reactions to the initial games for Knueppel, Flagg, and Bailey in Summer League. Plus Edgcombe out with an injury - as was Bailey yesterday vs the Hornets - and apparently 4 of the top 5 picks are already busts!
Bailey, Edgecombe and Flagg showed promise.
Knueppel did not.
All the experts say for high picks performing well in summer league is great but not highly predictive, but doing poorly in summer league is worrisome and somewhat predictive.
So I hope he turns it around.
Flagg 5 for 21 - including 0-5 on 3s - and air-balled his first and last shots. Yes, the breakaway dunk was nice.
And Bailey 3 for 13 in debut.
Wow!
IMHO; The only draft pick and the one I am most interested in is; Liam McNeeley, he was 4 asstās away from a triple double off the bench. Klakbrenner looked pretty good as well, showed promise at a needed position . The 2 guys from Duke didnāt produce at all. Never understood the Kon pick. This team has a glut of shooting guards. I will say, I have been very vocal about how I thought the top 10 pick used on Celine Deion last year was a wasted pick. He looked really good last night. He always has energy and Hussle, but last year it was like a 5 yr oldās energy. Just waiving his hands and running about. Last night he looked like he felt comfortable and the game wasnāt too fast for him. I know he is playing against rookies and 2nd years, but hoping he continues improving.
See that neither Knueppel nor Edgcombe will play in tonightās Buzz vs Sixers game.
No Flagg tomorrow vs the Mavs.
Interesting comparison. Martin not known for his 3 point shooting. More for defense. I think his best compariosn is another Dookie, Luke Kennard.
Iām not really comparing him to Cody Martinās style of play. More his ability to be a star player. Cody was always a role player/glue guy. Which isnāt a bad thing. But he was a second round pick. Not the 4th pick in the draft. If Kon had played at NC State or Wake Forest instead of Duke, heās probably closer to a second round pick than the 4th pick in the draft.

I see Kon had a good game today. Thatās encouraging.
I want to be wrong. Cause I want the hornets to be good.
Same here. I hope he proves me to be completely wrong.
