Does anyone think there is any way or anything we can do to possibly get the Hornets back here? Maybe even just the mascot and colors and all? I realize this is pretty much a dream so there is no need to tell me, but I was just asking.
The Charlotte Hornets kicked so much ass. I mean, of all the NBA franchises, how many can you think of that had as cool of a mascot and tie to the city and let’s not forgot those baller colors. I miss them a ton. I think I miss them more than I did when they first left and I had only lived in Concord for a few years when they did. And even worse, the replacement team blows sooo hard. If the Hornets were back in Charlotte, I’d finally have a reason to pay real attention to the NBA again.
Do you guys think if we created an org. or at least just a petition we could possibly get enough signatures and/or support to make something happen? I hear so many people say they miss the hornets/dislike the bobcats, it just seems like there would be enough support there. At least enough support to make some headlines I bet.
I just bought a Hornets jersey from the Goodwill for like 5 bucks, so I’m keeping the hope alive.
But I have nothing against the Bobcats, and the Hornets are doing so well in NO that I doubt there’s any chance for it. I’ve accepted the Bobcats as my team.
If George Shinn owns the NBA naming rights for "Hornets", it will cost money to use that name in Charlotte again.
Shinn doesn't own those rights, WE DO! That jerk needs to be paying the city royalties for that.:ticked:
I’ve got a mind to kick that guy square in the nuts! And he was flying around my house in that damn helicopter too! College kids need our sleep!!:ticked:
Not just George Shinn but the NBA, NFL, CIA, FCC, its all here in this heavily blacked out document! Yeah he’s become an old crochity jerk, and Bob Johnson is turning into a jerk too. Thank you for investing in our town Mr. Johnson, however quit bitching when we footed the bill for your new arena, if you want your team to win how about you quit hiring these joke coaches and actually go after a player who is a little more than a marginal star. You don’t have a real job that I know of anymore, where is the dedication? However Johnson would be a real hero if he would wrestle the name back and start a campaign of revival, there is a marketing tool that just might work.
I agree, Bust. I actually went against my principles and voted “for” the arena back when they had the referendum, because I didn’t want the Hornets to leave. It sucks. The Bobcats blow in comparison to the good ol’ days with Muggsy, LJ, Zo, DC, etc.
Actually I bet if you went up to Shinn now and said “Want to trade cities with Bobcat Johnson?” he’d say yes faster than he’d hit a honeybee. We’d also recapture all 5 WF fans who are willing to watch a game in Charlotte because of CP3.
Do they make a push to hire Larry Brown as head coach?
Also if the City owns the right to the name hornets and the colors, they should have fought to keep the name and colors in the first place. It might be a too late now though.
Originally, the new team was to be named the Charlotte Spirit, but another name-the-team contest yielded "Hornets" as the winning choice. The name derived from the city's fierce resistance to British occupation during the Revolutionary War, which prompted Lord General Cornwallis to refer to it as "a veritable nest of hornets." The name had been used for Charlotte teams before; the city's minor league baseball teams had been called the Hornets from 1901 to 1972; there was a short-lived team in the short-lived World Football League; and NCAA basketball's Charlotte 49ers and Davidson Wildcats play annually for the Hornets' Nest Trophy.
However Johnson would be a real hero if he would wrestle the name back and start a campaign of revival, there is a marketing tool that just might work.
