Charlotte @ MTSU 2/5 7PM; 2/6 5PM - both ESPN+

Just to interject without derailing this thread and since you brought it up, losing to Middle School Tenn is the norm for women’s hoops. They are consistently excellent in the league. Not sure why their coach stays there instead of opting for a bigger challenge, but he is a grad of that school and has never coached outside the state his entire career. Guess he enjoys being a big fish in a small pond. Since we rejoined CUSA the tallly is MSTU 10 and Charlotte 0.
Hopefully, this post jinxes his ass and we finally get a W over them today.

We did beat MT last season. Edit: Maybe you meant in Women’s hoops.

I thought that was clear from my excruciatingly detailed description of their women’s coach.

I think we all know we aren’t that far off. We’ve had the lead in nearly every second half we have lost. Not being that far off and still looking like we don’t know what we are doing at times is the most frustrating thing about this team and what shines the light on Ron. There doesn’t appear to be a cancer on the team, there is certainly enough talent, the kids don’t appear to have quit. When we have beat the better teams I don’t feel like we played above our heads and contrary to others I don’t necessarily think we play to the level of our opponent. I think we are running systems offensively and defensively that purposely creates close games and when games are close neither our staff nor our players are mentally tough enough to see it though.

We do need better talent in the big man department and the fact in year 3 we are still dealing with that isn’t a good sign. In addition to coaching Ron has to find players, if by year 4 he hasn’t got a solid big man that’s on him and not an excuse for more Ls.

Agree 100%. We have the talent. Need to upgrade the bigs but we certainly have the talent to compete for a CUSA title.

We may have some potential talent on the court, however the lack of talent on the sideline (particularly one in mind) is hindering any progress. I am so depressed that we actually get excited that this team has enough talent to win the CUSA title. When I was in school back in the mid to late 90’s, that statement meant something. Today that means no more to me than “we have the best DI men’s basketball team on the campus of a Charlotte University”. I understand that our option into the tournament is to win CUSA based on the strength of the conference, however we should be pissed off if we aren’t beating every team in this conference by 20 points. Building back better can take time, but WTF, time should not equal decades. It isn’t like this team has always sucked, so some momentum should had already been there. Like I have stated before, if performances like this get your contract extended, please sign me up for a job within Charlotte’s athletic department. I need a golden parachute to drift into retirement.

This is hands down the most frustrating season of Niner basketball I’ve ever experienced. I’ve watched bad teams great teams good team mediocre teams but never a team like this.

Once again, Niners WBB leads MT at halftime. Today it’s 44-37 so we’ll see if they can finish and beat the Blue Raiders.

I listened to yesterday’s game and Coach didn’t mince her words in expressing disappointment with the team’s effort in the latter stages of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth when MT opened up a double digit lead.

Playing without Jada McMillian today after she left yesterday’s game with an injury.

Playing with seven players for the majority of the game and just gutting one out. Failing to “pull a niner”

I went through some of the Washington State and Virginia stuff when the Bennett’s took them over and saw some of the same stuff that we see. I mean there was some ugly (81-29 loss). 3rd year at Washington State they ended the season only winning 2 out of the last 15 games. The year after they went to the NCAA tournament. Every year they would lose some weird game like UMBC in NCAAs. I guess my hope is that whatever happened there will happen here come year 4 or 5.

Given the contract I guess that’s the hope of all of us. My gut says this isn’t going to work, but the idea of restarting again makes me sick. 4 or 5 or 6 years is a long time to wait to see if he’s a dud and with the constant transfers and the overall direction of basketball this just seems like the wrong direction. If we lose Jahmir or Brice we are going to start all over.

If the son of Henry Williams transfers, so will I.

Per Matt on pregame, MT starting PG Dontrell Shuler out with season ending torn ACL.

I hate that for any young man. Fortunately, he already gets another season due to Covid. Double-fortunately, we get to play MT without their best player. Unfortunately, we will find a way to screw that up.

clt likes that Karen cares about winning

Well on our way to 0-2 against the “worst team” in the league , who is without their best player. Down 15 late first half. Nice job Ron! Edit: down 16 at the half. Well, I posted earlier this week that knowing this team, they’d go 0-2 ,while people were saying we needed a sweep
well, we got a sweep.
