Charlotte Observer Coverage ... Change of Heart?

This could just be ignorance we well. I say that because I had someone at work who knows that I’m a Tennessee Vols and Charlotte 49ers fan try to make a joke about asking me who was going to win more games this year. They were shocked when I said Charlotte :). Casual fans (if they can be called that, “acquaintances” is probably a more accurate term ) just assume that a start-up is going to go 1-10 or 2-9. They don’t factor in things like schedule or the increased caliber or player that we have since the step-up to CUSA is imminent.

I have to say that I have been very pleasantly surprised by the coverage from the Observer since practice has started. ;D

Eesh those players look like babies… we better play with our HAIR ON FIRE!!

All us niner fans need to always click on the CO articles. They probably track their click traffic the more clicks the more coverage they’ll offer in the future.

I do think a lot of we are seeing is that football just gets a lot more coverage than basketball in general.

I see that the Observer changed their Comments policy today at noon. No more comments from annonymous losers with nothing better to do than hate on us just for the reaction it might bring, now they must log in with a Facebook account. This should solve many problems.

Very very interesting…

I also hate to be a negative nancy but think about how busy NC sports is now vs when the meat of basketball season is… there is nothing going on right now… in Jan and feb you have NFL, NBA, and all the other college bball programs… lot less to compete with now.

They changed that over two months ago, unless you’re saying they added that to the Goldmine blog now, which doesn’t appear to be the case.

Sorry about that. I will never understand how an article written two months ago would still show up online on the front page of a section. I guess with about 8 reporters left they just cannot generate much content.

A lot less to compete with but we aren’t seeing a ton of ACC football coverage like we do with basketball. Charlotte football is second only to the Panthers right now.

AS WE SHOULD BE!! What we are doing is historic and we should be getting tons of coverage. We should see a 49er football article in the Observer every day from now until Thanksgiving.

Sure, let’s pile on negativity on one of the most positive sports stories this town has had in a decade. Here’s a thought: you write for the local newspaper, how about showing some support for the program. They have been exemplary in how they have started this thing from the ground up. His reply:

Alex,

Personally, I hope the 49ers go undefeated. But I’ll consider three wins an excellent debut season.

Allbest

Me too. I’ve actually given them compliments a few times, and as we all know, that is out of character for me. I don’t mind the Panthers getting more coverage. They should.

But the fact the O is doing much better now does not erase the fact it used to suck.
