Charlotte to the SoCon - Football Only?
Itā€™s good that we made the presentation. I think most of our fans would want us to compete against their teams and, frankly, I think a lot Socon fans would enjoy hating us as an opponent.

That being said, theyā€™re not the only ones who can say ā€œwe can take you or leave you.ā€ Iā€™d prefer it if we funded a marching band (remember that the music dept really stepped up to the plate during the whole Spangler incident) and put up some lights for high school teams to play under on fridays (nice for relationship-building with the hs coaches). If we had to scrap the funding for either so that we can pay socon membership fees instead, then staying fcs independent would be a better idea imho.
Enthusiastically this.

They know we are going to get a lot of the non-ACC guys they have been getting for years an ddo not like it.

I want to move up to DI-A asap as do our fansā€¦but I have to admit, I wouldnā€™t mind being in the SOCON for a bit before the jump. Can you imagine the gameday scene if App plays us at home? This could become a very easy hated rivalry. Something to really grab the folkā€™s attention in Charlotte and get primed for our move up in the future. I think this would be a good move.

and thats why I hate App State.

listenā€¦

Yep. They KNOW the Charlotte area has more to offer than the Boone area. Of course, we donā€™t have constant cold, snow, and little to see and do unless you like to ski and climb rocks all the time. Having said that, I LOVE to visit the Boone area anytime, but I would NEVER want to be a college student there. :))

I think we have a lot to bring to the SoCon table but if we think weā€™re moving up to FBS ASAP, Iā€™m not convinced the SoCon is a great idea. If we are not careful SoCon membership will be like our basketball series with Davidson. We can be much better for them than they are for us.

I think its highly unlikely that we go socon all sports. If it came down to it and we HAD to move basketball Iā€™m sure the AD would welcome the idea of the caa long before the socon.

Thereā€™s no way in hell we go to the socon in all sports.

THIS.

Really no need to ever mention the idea of us going SoCon in all sports. Will not happen.

CAA in all sports is unlikely too.

The only reason I mentioned that was because some people on other boards seem to think thatā€™s a possibility

If you havenā€™t read this thread yet itā€™s turned into an interesting Elon vs App pissing match.

There is zero chance we go SoCon for anything other than football.

Wonder if weā€™re making any pitches here?

If the SoCon and Colonial turns us down for football only, then BIG SOUTH HERE WE COME

I think Iā€™d perfer MEAC over Big South, despite not being an HBCU. At least we know weā€™ll see good bands.

if we joined the MEAC we would be the laughing stock of App and others

And joining the Big South theyā€™d respect us?

Iā€™d prefer staying Indy. if not CAA or SoCon. In fact, I might prefer Indy. over those as well. That would tell everyone we are fast-tracking to FBS.

Iā€™d rather be Indy without a humiliating public rejection by the SoCon of all things.

We should care what socon fans think ā€¦ why, again?

To me, Big South just means being FCS independent with an autobid.
