Deacs (1-0) beat Queens 102-40 this past Monday in their season opener in Winston-Salem. Wake lead series vs Niners 15-6 (7-1 in the QC).
We started hot on a 6-0 run including a 4 pt play.
10-8 early.
Not the best quarter for the Niners.
clt says no locker room celebration today
Anyone at the game can you tell what happened in the fourth quarter? Did they just miss shots, or did they tire down from playing defense? I know she said they are building up that end, but just wondered what happened in the 4th with only two points. Besides it being just the second game, anything you noticed that stood out to you?
It’s going to be a long season for the ladies. They are a turnover machine. No clear scorer either.
I wasn’t at Halton tonight but wondering if Coach needs to tighten up the rotation. Of course, it is just the second game of a new regime made up of mostly new players. Hopefully things get better by the time AAC play begins, if not sooner. Not expecting a conference championship but 2 points in the 4th quarter is troublesome.
Not good shot selection. That worries me.
We have a 6’5" player out injured who may return in December and will return for the conference season. Recovering from ACL which is always dicey.
Their defense was good and our offense was very poor and disorganized.
Niners just lost 60-41 to a Wake team picked 17th in the ACC preseason poll. Next up on Nov 12 - #14 Ohio State, tabbed #3 in the Big Ten, has 2 upperclassmen on the 2025 Wooden Award Preseason Watch List, and led by a freshman’s 31 points in Buckeyes’ 104-69 season opening win vs Cleveland State, a team picked to win the Horizon League after a 29-6 season last year.
A little early for that much negativity. It’s a brand new team and system which is going to take them a while to get used to
Fair point. Fingers crossed they can improve as the season progresses. Still cheering for them.
seems that turnovers cost them in this game, that in all of the misses in the 4th qtr. The article above put some more perspective on it, but yes, team is still learning. I would expect them to get better going into December. I can see Coach Reed trying to balance how hard she is on them, with allowing some growing pains. Let’s see how they do against at Ohio St, the first game on the road.
