Chop Tang - 6'7 SF (2008)

I believe I saw him listed in a thread somewhere before but didn’t see a dedicated thread for him.

He is a Juco Power forward from Thatcher (AZ) Eastern Arizona J.C.

Has offers from: Texas Tech, Charlotte, UNLV, Fresno State, UTEP, Idaho.

His senior year in HS, he averaged 24 points and ten rebounds. As a JUCO freshman last year, he averaged 10.9 points and 4.4 rebounds while knocking down 49 percent of his field goal attempts, 82 percent of his free throws and almost 42 percent of his 53 three-point attempts.

Power Forward of Small Forward? Thread title says SF…

That’s quite a drop off from HS to JUCO. What’s going to happen from JUCO to D1?

NO MORE JUCO’S, PLEASE.

Somebody in another thread mentioned his brother Poon. Do we have a thread for Poon Tang?

We used to… the gold duster’s thread.

In the great words of Marve Albert, YYYEEEESSSSSS!!

From what I have been able to find, Tang is a Sudanese who came to the United States to escape his war-ravaged homeland. Scout lists him as a PF…

From a wrap-up of the Kingwood Classic back in 2005:

Chop Tang made perhaps the defensive play of the tournament when he blocked a dunk attempt by (O.J.) Mayo who had broken down the Pulley defenders. Even Mayo’s teammates were praising Tang for his impressive block, who might have gotten several scholarship offers based on that one athletic play.

And this from KEYC-TV of Mankato, MN in 2006 :

It's tough to gain a fan club at the high school basketball level, but thanks to Mankato East cougar fans, one player has and he's this week's KEYC Bethany Lutheran College Prep Athlete of the Week. The Mankato East boys basketball team has had great players in the recent past, but none quite as popular as senior Chop Tang. The Cougars forward is quite possibly one of the best in the state and his numbers back it up. At 6'6. Tang is an intimidating presence in the low post and using that size to the tune of 22.1 points, 10.3 rebounds, and one block shot per contest, including a stretch last week where he poured in 88 points over three games.

Per ChevEE’s inquiry concerning his point production at Southeastern CC, he didn’t have to put up the numbers he did in high school as he and 3 of his SCC teammates averaged double figure scoring.

Somebody in another thread mentioned his brother Poon. Do we have a thread for Poon Tang?

I knew it wouldn’t be long at all before this joke was made

I knew it wouldn't be long at all before this joke was made

I can’t take the credit for the original joke, that was done before me, I just kept it going. Survivor originally started it in the 2008 recruiting thread.

Wu Tang anyone?

Wu Tang anyone?

Dude, Wu hasn’t even entered into High School yet. A little soon on his recruitment, don’t you think? Besides, their saying that he won’t be nearly as talented as Poon.

He sounds like he would be a good addition to the team.

I’m going to assume that all these jokes at a recruit’s expense means you don’t want him, no matter how good he might be or compelling a personal story he has to tell.

Take it easy Run. No one is bashing the kid. I’m sure he would be a good addition to the team. When we were recruiting Ian, there were TONS of Jethro Tull jokes made, that didnt mean we didnt want Ian to be a Niner. No one is being malicous or taking anything too far. Relaaax

Yea, I’d love it if Wu, Chop, and Poon came here.

run has been quite the juco advocate lately…

…and I love this headline: “Tang getting interest nation wide”. Everybody loves Tang.

Still, I was pretty curious why we were roaming the deserts of eastern Arizona recruiting the kid. This says he was once a Top 100 prospect?!? Odd…if he was a Top 100 kid, you would think there would be a bunch of 2 year old articles on the internet about power conference schools salivating over him. But my google searches of “Chop Tang” do not find anything of the sort (of course, if I do a search word of just ‘tang’, I get 41,300,000 matches).

What I do see are articles saying that he’s a fan favorite in person and at ~6’5", he holds his own defensively at the center position against players 6" taller. On offense, he can pull back and attempt the 15 footer. Sounds like a Dumptruck clone.

I’m just jealous I don’t have Mandeep’s name :frowning:

Thats a very good point. About a week ago someone on this board requested that Mr. Utter make Victor Davilla sound like a heterosexual when he visited here. I wondered if the young man would read that and if it would affect his attitude in any way. Perhaps the answer was no on both counts, but Davilla did cancel his visit within a day or so of the post.
It would be wise not to badmouth our players, be they past, present, or prospective.

I thought this was a thread about Chinese food.
