Cincinnati game TV Campaign

The Charlotte v. Cincinnati game will be on TV in Cincinnati on FOX WXIX Friday at 8:00pm. I emailed the athletic department requesting them to see if the game could be played here in Charlotte on Time Warner Cable channel 22. I don’t know how the logistics of local TV stations work or if this is even possible but I do remember several years ago watching a local St. Louis station feed when Charlotte played St. Louis University. I would love to watch this game even though it’s the NIT. If anyone wants to join the campaign, welcome aboard.

Are we targetting anyone in particualr within the athletic department? Can you post the e-mail address? It might be too late, but its worth a shot.

I just sent an emailed to the feedback link on the Charlotte49ers.com main page.

There may be a way to watch the game on your computer i’m still investigating that option.

Considering that the agreement with ESPN won’t allow for video or audio streaming, I’m doubting that it allows for local TV coverage. I’m surprised that the Bearcats have the game on TV for that reason.

games in the NIT cannot be streamed on the internet.

The game will be on 700wlw.com, and will be the Cincy radio broadcast.

how come the georgia southern game was broadcast on the internet from the gs people but not from our people?
Streaming Audio Unavailable For The NIT
March 15, 2006

ISP Sports, the multimedia rightsholder of Wake Forest basketball, announced today that ESPN has denied their request to provide streaming internet audio broadcasts of NIT games. ESPN holds the rights to those games, but does not plan to provide audio broadcasts of their own. In short, there will not be any internet broadcasts of any NIT games, including those involving Wake Forest.
Translation: Wake and ISP took the less diplomatic approach to announcing this.

As to why Ga Southern streamed and we did not: I can only imagine that GSU didn’t know, and wouldn’t knowingly have done that.

They might have allowed streaming on the station(s) of the team but not on a school’s sports web site or Yahoo.

Who knows? The NCAA has some dumb rule that the local TV stations could not broadcast live from inside the Greensboro Coliseum during open practice today. They had to do their standups from outside the building.

Just to show how lame, stupid, crappy this whole matter is: ALL our NIT games in 1976 were on local TV. 1976!!! This is soooo much BS I can’t believe it. Between our athletic dept and the local TV outlets who did not make arrangements, this just bites! I’m sure there’s $$$ at the bottom of this.

I don’t understand why the NIT doesn’t allow the webcasts… don’t they want people to watch their tournament?

I agree that Ch 22 should pick up the Cincy TV broadcast tomorrow, but as to your comment on the 1976 NIT games, remember that there were only 32 teams in the NCAA field back then, so the NIT was a much bigger deal. Trying to get advertisers to pay for NIT game telecasts today is more of a challenge.

Doesen’t it depend on HOW the broadcast is being transmitted? Seems like in the past there have been games that were broadcast locally that, due to the technology used, were not able to be picked up anywhere but the immediate area. May be the case this time.:ticked:

As I said: $$$ is at the bottom (top?) of this. Another thought: the very people here that could have gotten this done will BE AT THE GAME, so why should they care if we peons get to see it or not?

The games shown then were produced by WBTV, and big time UNCC and 49ers supporter Jim Babb was the station manager then. I would expect that Jefferson Pilot is now more involved today with the station than back then.

Finally, I don’t know of any station in this market/state that would want to go against NCAA tournament games tonight or tomorrow.

True. Shows that we no longer have the “connections” we need in this town.

Can’t a sattelite tune into the Cincy area? I’d like to watch it at Picassos!!

If it’s only being shown in the Cincy area, they’d likely microwave back to the local station, not a satellite.

Has anyone called Picassos?
