Doyel - Banks’ future uncertain

Banks' future as a Bearcat uncertain Jan. 6, 2005 By Gregg Doyel

CINCINNATI – Cincinnati freshman Vincent Banks will not play this season and his status as a Bearcat in the future is uncertain, SportsLine.com learned Thursday night.

The NCAA rejected Banks’ appeal for initial eligibility, but hasn’t rule on his status as a potential partial qualifier. If he’s not declared a partial qualifier, Banks will lose his scholarship and possibly would return home to Georgia.

If Banks leaves campus, it is possible he won’t return.

CINCINNATI, Ohio-- University of Cincinnati freshman basketball player Vincent Banks has been ruled academically ineligible for the 2004-05 season for failing to meet initial eligibility requirements, the university announced today. Banks is currently enrolled in classes at UC.

Banks, a 6-2 guard from Atlanta, was named Mr. Basketball in the state of Georgia in 2003 after averaging 31.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game at South High School. Last season, Banks was the leading scorer (23.0 ppg) for high school power Laurinburg (N.C.) Prep while leading his team to a 29-4 record.

What a shame.
