Reading about Richmond’s win over NC State in Raleigh and Fordham’s loss to Seton Hall got me to thinking - who is our closed (aka “secret”) scrimmage opponent this year?
GO NINERS!!!

virginia tech here is what ive heard
Why does the NCAA make it closed?
Don’t they know fans want to come watch? I have season tickets, I should be able to go, NCAA cock-suckers.

Because Seth Gold-brick has had enough public beat downs at the hands of Bobby Lutz.

Where’d you read about it run, other than possible word of mouth online?

Jeff Goodman(NCSU-UR at least): Link
I’m really suprised we are having a scrimmage against VTech with all the recruiting “battles” we have with them. I also appreciate the A-10 giving us two conference games with Richmond and X.
SF, I read about the UR-NCSU and FU-SHU scrimmages on the Richmond and Fordham message boards.
uncw is bottoming out right now, i hope we actually are playing VT, and that the deal with the dub is done.

Division 1 can only scrimmage in public against non Division 1. Not sure what the reasoning is, but I’m sure consideration for fans doesn’t enter into it.
I thought the NCAA liked cash. Gates sales. Food Revenue. TV Revenue. There flushing that down the toilet. If they don’t want their cut that’s their business, but they have no right to deny the schools revenue.

Isn’t it considered a game if it’s public? Thus affects the team’s rankings?
STK, we wouldn’t even have this game if it weren’t for the NCAA’s rule on preseason scrimmages between D-I teams. Otherwise we’d be playing another D-II (or lesser) team in an exhibition. Good for the guys to get the top-level experience before the “real” games start.
BTW - of course I’d prefer ol’ Seth had the cajonies to play the Niners in regular season!

Confirming VT @ Charlotte.
I’m betting many coaches like the closed scrimmage so they can see where their players are at this close to the season starting without it being seen by everyone. It gives them some time to make some adjustments in the few weeks left before tip-off.
And as Run said, we would not get the opportunity to play South Carolina or VTech in a live scrimmage if this rule was not in place.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Whatever. NCAA lovers!

C’mon ken, nobody here said they loved the NCAA. Take your meds and don’t shoot the messengers.
I’m not questioning the messenger, I’m questioning the believe in a BS message. There’s a difference, & everyone has gone past it.
I can’t believe how far some of these teams are traveling for a scrimmage…
Marquette at Virginia
Davidson at Texas
Wyoming at Fresno
Western Kentucky at Georgia Tech

Is there any compensation involved as with regular season “buy” games? Why else would Davidson and WKU make those trips?
