Dubois & the BOT destroy historical buildings.
Does that mean Dubois & the BOT are members of ISIS?
FoxNews, is that you?
Lame
Say what you will, but that’s pretty much a Glenn Beck special, right there (I know he’s not on FN, anymore, but work with me).

I think what disturbs me most is that this is just another piece of Charlotte history being torn down. This entire town likes to rid itself of anything meaningful and historical.
This isn’t the same as upgrading a basketball arena. This is a landmark (regardless of aesthetics) on campus. I could pick it out from the air as I landed today. Campus has become a cluster of boring brick buildings. The Belk Tower is a unique piece of the school’s landscape.
Don’t replace it, enhance it with upgrades to the quad.
Being an old grad, I’m surprised and a little amused with all the “nostalgic” outpouring of support and “love” for the Belk Tower. That thing has been mostly the butt (dick?) of jokes ever since it was erected (pun intended).
I personally have no sentimental attachment to it, although I love this school with every fiber of my being. I do hope it’s replaced with something most can approve, like, enjoy, etc.
So, if it goes, it goes. I won’t be as bothered as I was when they removed the seats from The Mine Shaft. But, then again I never got a blow job in the shadow of the Tower, as some seem to have, to be so sad about it’s proposed removal.
Fencing going up now, they’re enclosing the entire quad. There’s two police officers guarding the tower, I guess so people don’t chain themselves to it.

If you don’t believe money runs everything then you are in a state of denial.
Thing is, though I’m sure you believe you are in position to judge what is and isn’t of historical significance on campus, fact of the matter is that you are no more qualified than I or anyone else. Personally, I don’t miss the barn because I wasn’t there to see it in the first place. Unless we plan of keeping livestock on campus, it would be of no intrinsic value. I don’t see it as a tourist attraction nor would it fit well with the overall aesthetics of campus. In other words, the mofo would be useless.
Money running everything implies that the actual reason the tower is coming down is Phil’s stated one that repair costs are excessive rather than his personal and arbitrary dislike for the structure.
Sorry, I don’t believe it.

{As described in my letter to the campus, we are going to create a broad, inclusive, and participative process to re-design the Belk Plaza. There may be many ideas that we’ll want to consider and, like you, I would aim for something dynamic and not something commonplace on other University campuses. The process we are setting up is going to allow for three phases of public input and I would encourage you to be part of that process once it is announced. The idea of doing something to honor Miss Bonnie could be aired at that time. We are going to form a committee and I’m sure it will have alumni representation on it. However, as we consider the membership on that committee, we are trying to find folks with experience in architecture/landscape design who are able to help us synthesize and integrate any ideas we get from the public meetings we will hold with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and others.}
we are trying to think through ways to memorialize the presence of the tower either in the quad or at another location, such as at the Harris Alumni Center. It is certainly possible that a portion of the physical structure can be preserved. We’ll let our re-design of the quad dictate where we come out on that decision}
Thats a master class in pure bullshit buzz word nothingness. Throw in a little synergy and you’ve hit all your bases! Nice work Phil!
Throw in “upwards of” as in “repairing the tower would cost upwards of $1 million” I believe that is how the email was worded.

Do we know why CHP does not like this masterpiece work of art, design, and engineering?
Yes. Safe design, blend with established aesthetic, appeal to lowest common denominator. I don’t mind the design aesthetic we have, but I would not be opposed to some uniqueness and complementary standout areas of campus.
