clt asks which univ should we model in terms of growing the ath program. clt is impressed at the progression of v tech.
Over40Niner is also impressed with Va Tech.
VaTech program is good, however I like UNLV much better. My 2 cents.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but what would VT program look like without the football program at the center? Appears to me that their football prgram’s success was the beginning of overall success of the atheletic program.
Any other models we could look to?
How 'bout UConn? Powerful basketball team and a slowly developing football team

I was thinking the same thing. VT has football and had the ACC fall into its lap.
Great point, without continued basketball success it could make it that much more difficult to raise a football team.
Va Tech’s big check from their first big bowl trip, the Cotton Bowl, several years back paved the way for their AD advances. A deep run in the NCAA’s may do the same for us.
It’s easy for the Fighting Gobblers to pump up their b-ball program while awash in cash from football. Kinda hard to use them as an example.
It pains me to admit it, but I am impressed with the athletic program at the University of South Florida. However, I would also like to reserve final judgement until after their basketball program’s first completed season in the Big East.
How about Duke, they don’t have football either.

Closer than VT, but still not a good model. Halton is a new, state of the art facility while Cameron is such a run-down old box. Can’t we find something better to shoot for?
