No way they get off. The NCAA has punished blue blood schools prior to this for much less than this. Failure to take action at this point will completely invalidate their purpose.
They HAVE to punish them. If they don’t you will have a lot of people calling for a new association because if they let them off on this it’s inconceivable.
I bet the come down hard. Whether it not it’s enough, that will be open to debate I’m sure. But it’s going to be pretty strong.

Is this new info? Wow, this adds a very interesting question that could make the link with athletics particularly difficult to deny (though it won’t stop the “Carolina Way” folks and their high-priced lawyers from trying to deny it…). Pretty sure there have been tie ins befoe - Crowder, Boxill, etc. Tix, travelling with the team, etc. The details just get glazed over.
The NCAA nearly shut down the football program at USC for a booster giving Reggie Bush money. They had only 52 scholarship players at the bowl game this year and probation started 4 years ago. I think they were only able to offer 15 scholarships a year for 4 yrs and missed 2-3 yrs of bowls. UNC went on for 18 yrs so I would expect the penalties to be very harsh and severe.
I agree. Spease told me that this past fall. He said if they don’t lower the boom in a big way the NCAA basically has given a roadmap to schools how to circumvent all the rules and will basically be signing their own death certificate. If the NCAA wants to matter they have to drop the hammer on them. What I am curious about is this crosses sports - so the NCAA will have to hand out punishments for each sport?

Just the thought of a coach in chapel hill being upset with an in-state newspaper is difficult to imagine.
Seems like CHeat is trying to say the classes were accredited.
Many classes were set up with forged signatures by an administrator, not a member of the faculty; the profs said they never taught them. The profs said they never graded any work. The best attorney in the U.S. can't make those classes look accredited.
