IIRC the OT loss to Liberty was in Nate Woody’s first year of transitioning us from a 4-3 to a 3-4. If you actually look at the box score from that game you’ll realize that lack of defense was clearly to blame for the loss. We went on to win out on the season, finishing at 7-5, and the D has finished in the top 20 every season since.
I completely agree with Satt, this series is great for both schools. Guaranteed sellouts with regional/intermingled fan bases. I really don’t see how you can fault him for those statements.
A&T didn’t turn down the FCS playoffs. The MEAC signed a contract agreeing to send their champion to the Celebration Bowl. As McLeansville said, the money and publicity are much better than a first round FCS Playoff game.
In 2016, A&T finished 2nd in the MEAC , but was invited to the FCS Playoffs. They were better than NC Central that season, but laid an egg when the teams met in the last game of the season and Central was awarded the MEAC championship due to the tiebreaker.
The Ivy League doesn’t send its champion to the FCS Playoffs. They must think it would be unbecoming to lose to Robert Morris as opposed to ending the season as Ivy League champs.
Losing to a good FCS team is no disgrace. Furman beat UNC-CH, State, and Georgia Tech in the '70s and '80s.
I can…and I guess he is going to be surprised because App will NOT have 50% of the crowd, or anything close to it. For him to pretend he expects that is very arrogant.
And though A&T was undefeated it is hard to tell how far onto the.playoffs they would go. Generally the MEAC and SWAC teams have not done well at all when they have been in the playoffs for the last few decades.
The only thing that makes sense is App thinks this is their opportunity to beat the man, which will allow them to be the man. Unfortunately, they will still just be App.
And you will still be the lowest ranked team in FBS. I’d rather be App. You have to result to sophomoric insults because your team is bad. Hopefully you and your fan base will mature sometime after your team does.
You came here to do nothing other than run your mouth and be a dick, and were the ones who need maturing?
We know our team sucks. Thanks. You are literally just here to be an asshole. Don’t get butt hurt when people give it back.
And once again, whenever we figure our program out, good luck. Your program is at its peak right now averaging 25k attendance in the sun belt. Congrats.
Was your second year of transition, you had a scholarship advantage and still got punked by Liberty. The only reason I bring it up is you seem fixated on our A&T loss, but the Liberty loss was worse (imho)
Remind the Appies of this thread from their own little message board when they start ripping our “little stadium” and attendance. Apparently they aren’t sooo much better themselves.
“Most games the past 2 seasons sans Miami, Wake and family days have been very barren in half the end zone seating and parts of the State side”.
“Without the P5 games average attendance is less than 22k. Homecoming and family day will be full. Gwebb and Troy after thanksgiving will be under 20k.”
Given their obsession with us maybe they’ll be bringing back those temp seats next year when we go up the mountain.
All smack talk aside I’m surprised they think the Troy game will have that low attendance even though it is after Thanksgiving. Troy may be the best team in the Belt this year and if the Apps are half as good as some of its fans think they will be that game could decide the East.
1 - Not everyone wants a little college town experience. Not everyone wants an urban experience. Some people are scared of people of color and diversity, I am happy NC offers App for those folks.
2 - App fans did not do shit for their program. They showed up and their team was there and until fairly recently it was just a middling FCS squad. You won some FCS titles and beat Michigan and rode that wave. Kudos.
3 - Your stadium was a dump until fairly recently as well. I went to App games in the 90s and no one was there, no one cared. It was not until point number 2 things turned around, so don’t act like you have some amazing fanbase that slugged through tough days. During one trip to Boone in the 90s my friend that went there said the Watauga HS games are more fun.
4 - Charlotte and our fans literally built our team from nothing when not even our leadership wanted it, during the greatest economic downturn since the depression and against the Chapel Hill headwinds. This program is here because of us. At some point, as Clayton mentioned, we will get it all rolling and given the size, economic and geographic advantages - App won’t even be in the conversation for us at that point.
5 - This will be our 6th year… 6th. I know that confuses you App folks because it means you have to count on your other hand, but it’s the truth. We have been playing FBS ball now for 3 years and only our second year of having a full roster after depending on walkons up through last year. Logic I know is a challenge for you guys, but that is a reality. Only idiots expected us to be winning 8 plus games at this stage. If you want to talk shit about beating such a young program then so be it.
Our chances of winning are slim, hell our chances of keeping it real close are slim - but OMG if we are in this game in the 4th qtr or if we win I am going to laugh my ass off.
