clt says sign clt up for this conference

I hope this happens so I finally have the reason I need to cut ties with the program. You guys can enjoy your “DII” program along with all the media members, BOG members, and fans of other programs who have done everything in their power for decades to put us there. You all win. Congrats. And thanks for making everything the diehard fans did for decades before you mean absolutely nothing.[/quote]
We are not supposed to be on their level remember? They have been playing football a lot longer than us. We should be thankful they even want to us in their league!

Not sure what your vision for the future looks like, but I think joining a P5 conference is never going to happen. I think there being a P6 additional conference is never going to happen (not talking about the BE basketball-only conference). Our next step is deciding what the best G5 would look like. Nothing would make me happier than to get the call from the SEC, but I think that is about as likely as my getting to finally use my four years of eligibility.

Im still hoping for AAC, let us and ECU leave App behind

I think this is flawed thinking. The P5 model is not sustainable. The TV money is already drying up. Once the TV stuff starts going down and schools realize their new far flung conferences have resulted in lower donor support, fewer tickets sold and depressed student interest the entire house of cards could fall. The big schools - Texas, Bama, etc will be fine, but the smaller budgeted P5 schools are going to be in a world of hurt. I fully expect to see some of the schools change conferences over the next 20-25 years. In fact when I really think about it - I think we could see consolidation into maybe a P2 arrangement with the largest 20 or budgeted schools and then everyone else.

I’m assuming your issue is the Sun Belt Schools.

From CLT’s link, of the 10 schools listed, 3 of them have budgets higher than ours. The next 4 (coast carolina is from FCS budget of 2015) are within 3 million.

If Charlotte were in a conference with the other 10 schools, it would have the second highest subsidy in the conference, and at 79.21% of the expenses would be the 3rd most reliant on subsidies.

We would have the smallest football stadium by nearly 5000 seats, smaller than CCU and Georgia State. And the average stadium size in that conference, 29385, would be nearly double ours.

We would have only the 4th largest basketball arena. The average arena for that conference (10 other teams) would be 7629.

I don’t get the negativity towards this conference really. It’s who we are now. The cool kids moved on. They’ve actually found some more attractive partners than us too.

All we have over these teams is a big city we share a name with but don’t capitalize on and we got some tournament invites 15 years ago. Please clap.

All of that is true - but if that is where we happily accept our position then I am done.

Just one note, some states fund their athletics programs, but NC does not. This may lead to our having higher student fees, but instead of putting those tax dollars onto the field we put them into the classroom leading to lower in-state tuitions. For the student, it probably all washes out.

Is it acceptance if that is the best available option?

I wouldn’t be opposed if we use this as a 1st move and we potentially move on from that in a few years. Beats the hell out of the position we are in now. At least we could possibly have a few rivals and be able to make some away games.

If I had to take a guess I would sooner expect UTEP and UTSA to leave for the MWC before any of these “inevitable” realignment scenarios ever occur. And then CUSA would probably focus on expanding with a focus on eastern schools to cut down some of the whining.

We have (4) games that are within driving distance in the East.

Marshall and ODU @5 hours
MT and WKU @7 hours

Those are long drives but still doable. Also it may be my background coming from SEC country but Southern Miss and Marshall are respected football programs, superior to anything the SBC has to offer. Any SEC fan in the 90s and 2000s who said they weren’t worried playing them was either ignorant or being full of bluster.

La Tech I can remember them hosting A&M when they had Manziel and pushing them to the brink, and WKU has become a perennial powerhouse through multiple coaching changes.

The F()Us made major coaching hires and I look forward to giving Kiffdaddy and Butch multiple Ls.

There is still a perception gap, CUSA is a step up from The Belt in the minds of most college football fans.

I want us to keep moving forward but if an invite to the AAC isn’t pending I want to see if CUSA can develop before associating with the SBC. I’d love to play App, CCU, Georgia St, and Georgia Southern in non-conference games, and it would be nice if one of our two G5 games always include one from this group. It’s not catastrophic if we realign with the SBC, but I believe the potential with CUSA is higher.

What none of you who are against this seem to comprehend is that this doesn’t mean we leave CUSA for the Sun Belt. This is essentially a new conference or a merger.

This is so completely theoretical that I don’t see how you can be against all possible forms of a CUSA/Sun Belt realignment. Do you really think the current CUSA is better than a conference with App, Coastal, Marshall, MTSU, ODU, GA Southern? If nothing else, it’s a wash and we would be playing closer teams and saving money on travel.

Also, I have no idea why you are all panicking like moving to a regional conference suddenly means we lose any chance at ever possibly moving up. If we are good enough then we can move.

clt bets some of you just want the CCU cheerleaders to come to the rich.

no. just no.

No, I’m pretty sure everyone does comprehend that. I’m not sure how long you’ve followed college sports but Southern Miss, UAB, and UTEP have a much better reputation than GA State, Arkansas State, and even App State. So do we.

With that said, I have nothing against a football game or baseball series at CCU, or a football game in Boone.
