Breaking news.
In other breaking news, we’ll have lights in 2015 too.
Getting their own building and everything? We’re getting fancy ain’t we? I figured they’d just find them offices in Robinson or somewhere else. Good job!
the school release says it will be near Robinson:
“As with the ambitious planning that went into launching a football team and building Jerry Richardson Stadium, the University has grand plans for its marching band. This includes fundraising for marching band scholarships, purchasing new instruments and new uniforms, and constructing a building for offices and storage. The new structure will be located within walking distance of Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts, as well as the field next to Highway 49 where the band will practice.”

That would seem to make more sense.

Perhaps we should call the band “North Carolina’s Real Band of Distinction”.

Maybe it’s just me - but I LOVE the football jerseys. Would rather see an entire band in those than a band uniform.

I agree, and I doubt it happens.
So here is the scoop. We are going to have 150 people in the band between musicians and flag corps. They are constructing a $2 million dollar building next to Robinson to house the equipment and band. They considered putting it next to the stadium but this will make it easier for these students to use the practice rooms and meet with their instructors in Robinson. The band will put on their real band uniforms in their building and march to the stadium while playing along the just opened Alumni Way which goes by the high-rises and Alumni Center. We will be hiring a Band Director and Director of Band Operations, and raising a $4.5 million endowment to provide scholarship money so we can be competitive in attracting these kids. Some of the Marching Band will also join the Basketball Band as a part of their scholarship obligation. You can also bet there is going to be new music coming there. The vision is the band will grow to about 350 members as the University and stadium grows.
I had heard the 150 number, but none of the other information Nugget. Thanks.
Here is a pic of a 142 member band to get an idea of what ours will look like in 2015
Make it 149.
The pep band is gonna be a lot better once this happens. If I’m not mistaken most if not all are just volunteers now. I knew a guy that only joined to get the letterman jacket they get. Ha
Yep. And make the unis look like 49ers looked, but make sure the hat is the pinned-up-in-the-front version like the statute at the Square uptown and in the median at end of main entrance and other recent past mascot looks, except the current one.

You think maybe Phil got tired of burning up at our games this year?

In his air conditioned Chancellor’s Suite…doubtful.
