clt says we can use this thread to identify improvements needed for the SEC. clt lists three
expand the rich to 45,000 and add suites
add indoor hitting facility for baseball
upgrade haltron. Capacity is ok, we just need the bells and whistles.
Anything else?
Larger fan base and increase athletic contributions X 10
I think our fanbase size is ok. We need them engaged though. We have a ton of alumni that are casual fans, non-donors. We need them all in. Announce SEC membership and watch all them them suddenly wear green.
This thread is funny but if by some miracle it happened, we would need to expand to 60-70K for football and 15K for basketball. A move of this magnitude, would not only engage our current non-supporting alumni but it also bring a ton of bandwagon fans from the community.

Of various shades…
But seriously this move could happen. Charlotte as an area will only fully support P5 football.
We don’t have the unfortunate situation of being the only game in town like in Boone.
It’s why the AFL or XFL would never do well but NFL would 20+ years ago.
Charlotte dreams big. It’s time to fit into that culture.

Certain criteria on the academic side, financials and the City of Charlotte involvement would also have to be met. This alone would take several years to play out. Just notice the package that the University of Memphis has put together to attract the attention of the Big 12 as an example of this.
It’s all about the aspiration and the model to get there. Again, look at what Memphis is trying to put together for the B12 bid. The university would have to work with business and city leaders like they rarely have before in order to even think about making this happen.
Even if we don’t achieve the SEC dream, doing so would make us much more attractive to other leagues.
What isn’t acceptable is passivism or the status quo.
One thing Judy said back when we did start this process is that they wanted to play FBS football. I think she was right about that - because she knows this town will only support sports at the higher levels. FBS was the minimum bar for viability. But the flip side of that issue is that this town would rally behind P5 football and absolutely go nuts for the SEC.
The ACC has left a window until 2026-2027 when the GoR expires. We need to at least try to make a real pitch before then.
One other thing - its a lot easier to sell P5 football than it is to sell games against Elon and FIU. The SEC mostly sells itself. It’d be a moon shot to get there, but once we did, it’d be a lost easier on the AD in terms of marketing.
I admire their proactive approach, right now would be perfect timing for Judy to throw out a few tidbits about stadium expansion just to get people talking about us again.
Halton would need only minor additional upgrades to be SEC viable, especially if we are doing all the scoreboards we have heard about. Put a team store in the dead corner and a few smaller perks and done.
Expanding the Rich and continuing to add amenities, such as luxury boxes on the student side, would be absolutely essential.
The indoor practice facility I would put third in priority. Would probably have to wait for conference money to afford it.
Another thought, why wouldn’t the city and Panthers/Jerry Richardson lobby for this? They want to host the National Championship game and this would be a foot in the door with the nation’s best football conference. The reason alone should get the big players involved…should be an easy sell for Judy or whomever the AD would be.
Hosting a national championship then leads a possible Super Bowl.
