I think this is what’s it’s all about. Coaching/execution and…recruiting as a close second.
Major expanded a little bit this morning on WFNZ re what he plans to do: Tough, scrappy defense, run when opportunity, back it out get organized and work for high percentage shots, inside-out.
Yesterday, he said tough defense and sharing the ball. Of course everyone knows I was the biggest Bobby fan BUT we did not play DEFENSE or SHARE THE BALL and it was ugly to watch.
Making extra passes for a better shot is not only great to watch, but wins games. Look at the teams who beat us with less talent.
with the talent we have coming back, if we can get good ball movement and make the extra pass, our offense should be fine. I’m hoping Major really gets into the guys so they focus on defense. Learn M2M and communicate.
I agree that we have really good talent coming back for next season, but let’s not forget how important the point guard position is in college basketball. We can’t underestimate the need for someone to step up and become a good floor general for us, plus learn a new system. We may have our struggles early on, but hopefully we will have a strong finish to the season.

I can’t imagine anyone from Indy and the Big 10 NOT playing D and having good ball movement-> I think the Niners will look a lot like Purdue.

On the downside, a lot of people think Big 10 basketball is super boring. I don’t care as long as we win!
When watching the press release online I was dying to ask about his offensive style. We’re going to be a defensive team now, which is great, but I’m interested in hearing his offensive style. What set plays, player roles, three balls, inside game, press styles, etc will we be seeing?
Will we be playing and / or recruiting like Ohio State?

he hasn’t been to specific about yet. Someone did ask something along those lines and he basically said that he still needs to work with the team. He did talk about playing a tough defense and that he wanted to share the ball alot. I can imagine we will really focus on our big men. But he really hasn’t Gotten into details . It will interesting to see where he takes our team.

This is what excites me about this guy more than anything. This is called coaching. I know we haven’t seen making adjustments depending on what you have on the court in a while, but that is what coaching is all about. I love that he will make his style depending on the players’ strengths. Major will be good for us.

wow, your colors change fast
I have to walk a fine line of not pissing on the new hire, while still commenting on inaccurate posts. I’m very excited about the new hire. Can’t wait to see how it translates to on the court. But Bobby did adjust his offense. Spears was the guy the offense went through last season, inside out. Green was basically the only guy with a green light from outside. Dijuan got a ton of minutes, shot a fairly high percentage from outside, but wasn’t “launching” ill advised shots all the time.
FGs attempted last season.
Spears
Green
Braswell
Harris
Jones
Wilderness
Of the top 6 in FGs attempted, only 1 was primarily a 3 point shooter.

I’ve always said we needed to play defense and make extra passes and HOPED like the rest of us, we would get back to that with Bobby.
lack of depth hurt us last year, but their will be absolutely no depth this year especially at Guard, so whatever style he wants to play may have to be adjusted for his first year.
The recruiting philosophy/region will be interesting to watch. We may not of loved it all the time, but Lutz had us strong in two places 1) Juco, we could reach in and get one of the better players due to his/our credibility their, ie., he could recruit them because he would play them 2) DC/MD area. Both may of not been the best approach all the time but he was able to fill a roster that way, and he would always say what people don’t understand is how many players from DC/MD and Juco, actually wanted to come play for us, he would always point that out in his post game interviews.
