Coach on Penner & Mac right now!/Early Impressions

nm

Yep, just heard it. They’ve jumped aboard the Niner Nation.

BTW - how about the numerous “University of Charlotte” references by Sandy?

Lovin’ it.

Give me some highlights. I’m stuck here in Boston and can’t hear.

What did coach have to say. Is he their first guest?

Penner rules!

Was just a little catchin’ up between Penner and Coach, while giving Mac a had time about not knowing who our head coach was.

Penner definitely said they would be “embracing Niner Nation” this year. Nice to actually have someone other than GWill on our flagship station that actually supports our school.

He just called in to say hello, welcome Sandy back to town and welcome Chris to town. He didn’t discuss much of anything else.

And by the way, I hate to develop such early impressions but I’m not digging Mac too much. Not sure if it’s his voice or what but it’s not clicking with me the way Sandy does. He just doesn’t mesh well with Penner in my opinion. I guess I’m just so used to hearing Czabe. I’m sure I’ll get used to it and I’m just glad to at least have Sandy back.

Yeah, I like the University of Charlotte reference!

I got to hear them today. I really liked it. I had forgotten Sandy talked so fast. Nice to hear hard-hitting, entertaining and informative sports talk again.

[/b][/quote] Sandy and Chris actually broke down how the Bucs/Panthers games would play out, how Gruden uses 4 wide outs and the short passing game, how it will take a while for Tampa's line to adjust to Gruden's system, how Charlie Garner can spread the field out with his receiving ability. Imagine that, actual breakdowns! Man, it's been a long time since we've had that.

Tell me about it.

Packer’s form of a breakdown is, “Julius Peppers is a monster and I know this much, these two teams can get after it.”

Insightful.

That’s why they play the game. :hammer: I had forgotten what breaking-down something really meant.

“But let’s go to the phones, 'cause the lines are loaded…Jimbob in Waxhaw, you’re on Primetime…”

“Hayseed, you suck! Go Panthers!” Click

“HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA”

Oh my, breaking down a game…what a concept

If these guys do this with a 49ers game, I will be easy to find.

I’ll be the guy in the I-85/Hwy 49 area driving at lunchtime with tears in his eyes.

I listened a little bit yesterday and I can’t believe FNZ has finally expanded their demographic to INCLUDE college graduates.

Sounds like Sandy is not a proud supporter of the Observer sports section. I think I heard him compare the sports section of the paper to a “leaflet on famous Jewish sports heroes” or something to that effect.

JimBob in Waxhaw can’t keep up. That’s the beauty of it. Several people welcomed Penner back. One guy said, I remember when you used to shut Packer up when you did the packman and penner show.

The other guy seems intelligent and is a Nascar guy. It’s probably a strong enough show to replace Packer at some point. But with Primetime getting syndicated, it will be difficult to get rid of him.

I don’t know if you were around for Sandy’s first tour of duty in Charlotte, but he and the Observer go way back. He, along with Jim Noble used to have a daily segment to the tune of Men At Work’s “It’s A Mistake” where they would go through the sports section and read off all the mistakes that were made. It was absolutely hilarious. They went for 50-something days at one point before their was no mistake in the sports section. It was one reason why the Observer’s columnists didn’t appear on WFNZ for a while.

Penner has always been very critical of the Observer. He and Czaban used to do a bit every day called "It's A Mistake" where they would note various typos/mistakes in the Observer everyday. Was actually pretty surprising at how many errors there were on a daily basis.

I’m still not digging Mac so much but Penner is the man, as usual. And the content is terrific and what sports talk radio should be about.

LOL Smoothie…we were on the same page with that one but you posted a minute or so before me.

Yeah they did. I stopped their "streak" one time by proofreading like crazy one night, and another time, they continued it on a bogus mistake that I didn't actually make, and therefore, MikeP didn't catch.

I thought the bit was funny though. You’d be surprised how easy it is for some of those to slip through. For example, I corrected a mention of Rod instead of Charles Woodson in an injury report. Your eyes don’t immediately pick up on the mistake, because both names are technically right. But only one of them was hurt at the time. It’s harder than it looks when you’re doing 3 or 4 editions in as many hours.

mac is horrible.
